Leon Edwards will fight Khamzat Chimaev in March after their proposed bout fell out twice in December and January. ‘Rocky’ will look to put a stamp on why he is one of the top contenders of the 170lbs division of the UFC with a statement win over ‘Borz’. However, Chimaev is no pushover and in fact, many tout him to be the favorite to come out triumphant.

One other welterweight Edwards would certainly like to fight is Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal. The Miami fighter is currently one of the biggest stars in the UFC. The stars started shining for the UFC veteran in a London fight card in 2019, where he knocked out Darren Till and punched Edwards backstage.

But, ‘Rocky’ Edwards believes Masvidal doesn’t actually want to share the Octagon with him. “Um, they said he doesn’t want to fight. Basically, I said, give me Jorge, he basically he doesn’t want to fight you. And I said, put it to him, he turned it turned it down.” said Edwards recently.

And that’s it. You can or cannot force a man to fight, you know, I mean, he doesn’t want to fight. He talks all that BMF shit, but he doesn’t want to fight and that’s just the bottom line of it,” he added.

I think he’ll find some excuse not to fight me, probably when I get the belt he’ll try to fight me,” said ‘Rocky’.

The BMF champion has been out of action since his failed bid to capture the UFC gold at UFC 251 against Kamaru Usman. Despite his shortcomings, ‘Gamebred’ got heaped in praise because of his tremendous effort to step up on 6 days’ notice to save the main event.

Leon Edwards vs Jorge Masvidal has to happen at some point

‘Rocky’ and ‘Gamebred‘ started their spat at UFC Fight Night London in 2019. The backstage altercation perfectly set up the stage for a potential clash inside the Octagon. It makes sense from a rankings perspective too, as both fighters are vying for UFC gold and are ranked very closely.

So, a fight between the two top contenders only makes sense. It’s tough to imagine a seasoned fighter like Masvidal dodging any opponent; Edwards is obviously looking to get that fight too.
