The UFC has announced quite a number of fights for the historic upcoming fight, UFC 300. Two title fights have already been announced, one featuring Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje for the BMF belt, and the other with Weili Zhang vs Yan Xiaonan for the women’s UFC strawweight championship. However, there might be another title fight that lurks in the corner with Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad.

UFC welterweight champion, Leon Edwards had announced that he would defend his welterweight strap at UFC 300. Despite the welterweight division having a deep talent pool, a fight stands out like a sore thumb. No. 2 ranked UFC welterweight Belal Muhammad believes that he’s next in line for the welterweight Title against ‘Rocky’ given his 10-fight winning streak. However, UFC legend Chael Sonnen seems to think otherwise about the matchup.

Despite Belal Muhammad being the obvious contender to challenge for the welterweight title, there are some people who don’t agree that the fight should feature in the main event of the historic UFC event. Sonnen in his YouTube video said, “Now I am light on Leon vs. Belal. I’m light on this. Something is going on at that weight class. I can’t tell you anymore. They might get that worked out.”

“It feels like a fight they don’t want to do, even a fight you don’t want to do when it’s so clearly the one that you have to do because you got your champion, you’ve got your very clear number one contender,” said Sonnen, implying that the UFC and Dana White might not want to make the fight due to the risk of it not selling well.

He then wrapped up his argument, as he stated, “So it would still leave us with the main event. That’s the point I’m trying to make… The clues that we have, to my understanding, we have one fight left for the main card.” Sonnen, knowing that there’s a matchup left for UFC 300, believes that the last matchup announced would be the main event of UFC 300.

Given that the fans are not ready to accept Belal Muhammad vs. Leon Edwards as the main event of UFC 300, the UFC might make a quick turnaround for the newly crowned UFC champion, Dricus Du Plessis.
