Chimaev vs Brady: A prospect vs prospect match-up

While both men have made their presence felt within the UFC already, it’s safe to say that both Chimaev and Brady still have a ways to go. The welterweight division has been a flagship weight class in the UFC with established veterans all over the rankings. As it stands, Brady and Chimaev represent the changing of the guard at welterweight.

Chimaev is coming off a massive win over Li Jingliang who came in as the first ranked opponent he faced. ‘Borz’ is now associated with number two ranked welterweight Gilbert Burns in what would effectively be a title eliminator. This is a massive opportunity for Chimaev, however, he appears to want to scrap against every welterweight fighter at the moment.

A fight against Sean Brady would certainly be one that would serve as a comprehensive litmus test in the striking department. Brady showcased slick technique and is also extremely adept if the fight enters into grappling range. However, history would indicate that going to the ground with Khamzat Chimaev is a poorly advised decision.

Sean Brady too would greatly benefit from facing Chimaev, as the spotlight would certainly be on him. ‘Borz’ has made a massive splash in the MMA community and he generates a significant viewership every time he fights. It remains to be seen if the UFC decides to go ahead with booking this match-up in the near future.
