YouTubers turned athletes Logan Paul and KSI‘s energy drink PRIME might soon face an investigation from the FDA. The beverage company was launched in 2022, and within a very short time, it harvested huge profits. As the popularity of the drink grew to an unimaginable level after its launch, with retail sales of $250 million, the company broadened its horizons. Now, it’s the ‘Official Sports Drink of the UFC’. Moreover, the beverage company also chose UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya as their official athletes. However, off late, things don’t look so good for PRIME.

Before collaborating with the UFC in July 2022, Prime became the official drink of the football club Arsenal. Later, the company received severe backlash from fans after teaming up with FC Barcelona. The tremendous growth of PRIME in such a short span is now raising many eyebrows.  Sen. Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat, has now asked the Food and Drug Administration to check on the high caffeine content in the beverage that makes kids addicted to it.

Prime has become a favorite of kids. Lawmakers and health experts are worried about children’s overindulgence in the drink due to its high caffeine content. As reported by NBC News, on July 9, Sen. Charles Schumer approached the FDA to have a thorough investigation into the matter.

Schumer said, “One of the summer’s hottest status symbols for kids is not an outfit, or a toy—it’s a beverage. But buyer and parents beware because it’s a serious health concern for the kids it so feverishly targets.” According to Schumer, the beverage company targets kids, and now they are quite successful in their attempt. He believes that selling the drink in school yards was one of the most dangerous practices.

 The collaboration between the beverage company and UFC

It was UFC president Dana White and Logan Paul who announced the collaboration between the world’s biggest MMA promotion and PRIME. According to Paul, it was his biggest dream to associate with the world’s biggest MMA promotion, UFC. Initially, Paul and KSI only wanted to form an association with the UFC for a single event that was held in Perth, Australia.

The intention behind this was to introduce PRIME to Australia. Later, when Paul came to know about UFC’s deal ending with its then-official drink, the YouTuber chose to seize the opportunity to become the new official drink of UFC.
