After completing his contract with UFC in September 2022, Diaz set out to look for different opportunities. One of the most anticipated paths for him was boxing, and he chose it eventually.

Nate Diaz fights Jake Paul on 5th August in an 8-round boxing match. The fight between Diaz and Paul has generated immense hype, as both fighters are established polarizing figures in combat sports. However, it turns out that Nate Diaz‘s involvement in this fight took an unexpected turn.

In a recent episode of the Impaulsive podcast, hosted by Logan Paul, the older Paul brother expressed his surprise at not securing the fight with Diaz himself. Logan believed he had the fight “locked up,” only to discover that Jake Paul had secured the opportunity instead. According to Logan, the Stockton native might not have been serious about a fight with him. “He was playing me hard like a fiddle”, Paul said.

The dialogue between the Paul brothers on the podcast shed light on the situation. Jake Paul explained that Nate Diaz was playing both sides, claiming that he was unsure about his decision-making process. Further, Jake explained that Diaz saw the bout with Jake Paul as a more legitimate contest. According to the younger brother, it was because Logan had not yet defeated a notable opponent.

“I told you he’s playing both sides. He doesn’t know what the f*ck he’s doing bro. He doesn’t, but like just throwing money at someone doesn’t make them like want to do it. At the end of the day, what it came down to honestly is that he thought the world would view our fight as way more legitimate than you. Him fighting you was like a money grab because you hadn’t beaten anybody.”

UFC legend claims Nate Diaz will be back after defeating Jake Paul

While a boxing fight against Paul sounds exciting, there is no clarity about where Diaz will go after it. The 38-year-old has repeatedly hinted at coming back to the UFC at some point in the future. Recently, UFC legend Chael Sonnen also talked about this.

According to Sonnen, there is a possibility that Diaz will come back to the UFC for a title chase. Interestingly, Sonnen also claimed that the title will not be a weight division belt, but the symbolic BMF belt instead.

“He would only be coming back for one Championship. His championship, the championship which eluded him because according to him it was cut short by a doctor who never should have stopped the fight after 15 minutes. It was scheduled for 25 and I’m of course talking about the BMF.”
