The UFC is all set for its first PPV of the year as Islam Makhachev returns to put his title up for grabs against Arman Tsarukyan. However, Dana White and Co. could be encountering a major issue with just over a week to go for UFC 311. Fans on social media have been discussing this issue, leading them to believe that the PPV could get canceled.

Is UFC 311 postponed?

The state of California has been witnessing people getting affected by the recent wildfires. Currently, five areas in the city of Los Angeles are facing this crisis, with evacuation going on in full swing. For the UFC, though, they might need to worry about two specific wildfire hotspots, the Sunset fire near the Runyon Canyon Park and the Palisades fire near the Skull Rock viewpoint, which is around 25-35 km away from the UFC 311 venue in Inglewood, as pointed out by fans on social media. “Los Angeles Fires 20 Miles From UFC 311,” said one fan on TikTok.

However, Dana White and Co. haven’t spoken about facing any issues with the Islam Makhachev vs. Arman Tsarukyan headlined card when it comes to the wildfires. Nevertheless, the CEO has offered to help the affected people in the city while commending the work done by the first responders. “Love this!!! Already called @govjoelombardo Much respect to all the first responders from Nevada and California. ANYTHING you need for Me or @ufc, we got you,” White stated on Instagram.

While UFC 311 seems to be going according to plan, other sporting events have suffered due to the recent wildfires. The National Hockey League took one of the biggest hits due to this natural hazard. Let’s take a look at that front.

Sporting events get canceled due to Los Angeles fires

The evacuation numbers due to these wildfires have been staggering. Over 70,000 people had to be relocated, and as such, it is understandable why many sporting events have been canceled. One of the most prominent leagues, the NHL, had a match between the LA Kings and Calgary Flames scheduled at the Cyrpto.com Arena. This had to be indefinitely postponed, with a new date slated to be announced in a few days after assessing the situation in the city.

“Our hearts are with our entire Los Angeles community,” the LA Kings said in a statement. “We appreciate the hard-working first responders who are diligently working to contain the fire and protect our community. We appreciate the league’s support in keeping our fans, staff, and players safe.” On the other hand, the NBA is closely evaluating the whole situation as the LA Rams are scheduled to take on the Minnesota Vikings at the SoFi Stadium.

Now, it remains to be seen how Dana White will handle the UFC 311 if the fires don’t calm down by 18th January. Let us know your thoughts on the possible route that the premiere MMA organization could take due to the raging wildfires in the comments down below.
