Several UFC fighters had their careers cut short due to various illnesses. The noted UFC 294 co-main eventer, Khamzat Chimaev, also could’ve well been on that list. A lot of UFC fans know about Chimaev’s obsession with training. But this obsession could’ve put an end to his pro-MMA career a couple of years ago. The world knows how the dreaded COVID-19 caused a lot of suffering. Well, Chimaev also had his share of troubles with the dangerous disease.

Doctors had asked Chimaev to refrain from training while he was infected with COVID-19. But the Chechen denied their instruction and went to his usual training sessions just after a few days of resting. Well, he had to pay a pretty heavy price for denying the doctors, which almost led him to an abrupt retirement from professional MMA. However, an Instagram reel posted by ‘Freak MMA’ revealed that Chimaev was also mistreated in the process.

A false alarm for the Chechen

The reel showcased Chimeav talking about the time when he got infected with COVID-19. A lot of fans may know that the 29-year-old also coughed up blood during a training session around this time. This is exactly what got him terrified, compelling him to announce his retirement from professional MMA. But the reel also showcased Chimaev, revealing that the initial doctor who treated him diagnosed his disease as “cancer”.

This serious issue of coughing up blood got “in his head”. ‘Borz’ also disclosed what he had said to his manager at that time. He said, “I told my manager no money anymore, brother”. However, he was relieved when his second doctor informed him, “It’s Corona”.

However, a few fans didn’t find Chimaev’s words pretty amusing. One of them derided him, calling him a “liar” in the comments section of the post. Another one chose to mock his decision to retire, stating, So he is pu**y like costa or what? chimaev logic”. But not all fans were like them.

Several fans also empathized with Khamzat Chimaev’s situation with endearing words

My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat.
