Mackenzie Dern Releases A Statement After UFC Fight Night Loss To Marina Rodriguez

UFC strawweight fighter Mackenzie Dern saw her four-fight win streak snap at UFC Fight Night 194.

Dern went up against #6 Marina Rodriguez in the main event at UFC Fight Night 194. Despite putting up an impressive performance, which saw Dern dominate the second round on the ground, Mariana came out the victor. Mariana landed 148 strikes in the fight. Her striking ability helped her conquer the last three rounds of the fight. Mackenzie, despite being outstruck, really showed determination and kept the fight interesting. The main event was awarded the fight of the night.

This was only the second defeat of Mackenzie’s 13 fight career, and according to her recent Instagram post, the loss was an important lesson.

In her post, Mackenzie wrote, “Thank you, everyone, for all the support! Yesterday wasn’t the result I was training for, but this fight is the biggest learning experience for me! Now I have a lot to look back on and fix to become a better fighter! For sure, a submission would have been great, but to have these rounds for me to work on is such a blessing!”

What next for Mackenzie Dern?

Mackenzie Dern and Marina Rodriguez impressed everyone with their performances at UFC Fight Night 194. The fight was a constant back and forth between the two warriors, which ultimately went to Mariana via a unanimous decision.

Before the fight, Mackenzie was on a four-fight win streak and had finished three of her four fights via submission in the first round. She had also won the ‘Performance of the Night’ bonuses in those three fights. After the defeat, it will be back to the drawing board for Dern, as she would look to restart her charge for the UFC strawweight title.

As for Marina, her win against Dern puts her in line for a future title shot. With Rose Namajunas facing Zhang Weili in a UFC strawweight title match at UFC 268, Mariana’s next fight can be for the number one contender spot. With the win against Mackenzie Dern, Rodriguez has now won three fights in a row.
