Elon Musk does not have much love for rival tech mogul Mark Zuckerberg, at least on his social media platforms. He recently spoke to Joe Rogan about the oddity of Instagram during the recent JRE appearance. Moreover, Musk also expressed his concern for the people who use Zuckerberg’s social media platform.

Instagram rose to fame during the early 2010s. Launched by Kevin Systrom, Facebook bought the app for $1 Billion in 2012. Since then, it has become one of the biggest social media platforms, which became $100 billion in worth with people posting millions of pictures and videos daily. However, Elon Musk had a lot to say.

Although Instagram is one of the biggest social media platforms in the world, Elon Musk does not use it as much as he used to. Moreover, the 52-year-old told Joe Rogan on the million-dollar podcast, the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’, that when he was using the platform, he often found himself posting selfies. That made him realize what he was doing on Instagram.

Elon Musk said, “I haven’t used Instagram for a while. There was a time when I was posting on Instagram, but I found myself doing selfies and I’m like, ‘What the hell is wrong with me?'” He mentioned that if he had done the same thing on Twitter, he would have become a subject of trolling. “If you pose for selfies on Twitter, people would get all over you,” said Musk.

Elon Musk also mentioned that the core of everything that people can do on Instagram is post pictures. That is the most basic part of that platform. Musk further added, “It’s [Instagram] is like pretty pictures, basically.”

Joe Rogan chimed in to mention that people act more mercifully on Instagram than on any other social media platform. He cannot seem to comprehend the reason behind it. “People are way more lenient on Instagram for some strange reason,” said the 56-year-old. Moreover, the SpaceX CEO also raised a concern he had about the people who use Instagram.

Musk believes that Instagram could lead to depression

Joe Rogan mentioned that the only thing he could see on the $100 billion platform was pictures and a lot of gibberish. Moreover, he finds it unusual that grown men post pictures with a variety of filters available on Instagram. Rogan said, “Pretty pictures and a lot of bullsh*t. There’s a lot of weirdness that comes with Instagram, like filters. I have got grown men using filters on their pictures. It’s very strange.”

The statement from Joe Rogan prompted Elon Musk to mention how he’s concerned about the people who use Mark Zuckerberg’s app. Some people post pictures where they seem to be extremely happy with their lives. This, Musk believes, could lead to unhappiness among other users. Moreover, he’s also concerned that this could lead to depression. “I am concerned that like, let’s say Instagram actually leads to more unhappiness or less in the sense like, it just looks like everyone is having a great time and is way better looking than they really are. You sort of compare yourself to that… I think it’d make you kind of depressed,” said the SpaceX CEO.

Instagram has often faced criticism from a lot of people. However, it remains one of the biggest promotional social media platforms and an excellent place for influencers. While Elon Musk continues to criticize Instagram, it does not look like Mark Zuckerberg will be affected by it since the platform’s value has risen significantly. It remains to be seen how the Meta CEO will respond to these comments in the future.
