While many fighters possess natural talent and skill, dedication towards the sport cannot be replaced. This is something Khamzat Chimaev understands quite well. After battling COVID, he made a spectacular return against Li Jingliang. Chimaev’s absolute domination of the fight shook the audience and demonstrated his level as a fighter.

It takes complete commitment and determination for any MMA athlete to excel. Fans may not be too surprised to know that ‘Borz’ reflects all these qualities. His Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach had great stuff to say about the fighter. Does Khamzat Chimaev have a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

In an interview with Sherdog, Chimaev’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach Alan do Nascimento spoke about the fighter. He said, “He’s still a blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu. You know, many guys, many people complain with me about graduating Chimaev and I learned Jiu-Jitsu that way, you know, is no is no shortcuts. Is not VIP treatment.”

He further said, “You know, the time you spend in the mat wearing the Gi is the time that counts before you get to graduation.”

His coach also revealed that he might soon earn his purple belt as well. Chimaev has an honest and dedicated coach. No doubt he seems to show similar qualities. Spending more time practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and earning one belt after the other will further hone his skills. He is already a dangerous fighter and Chimaev receiving his black belt in the future can only promise more dominance in the cage.

After Chimaev’s spectacular win against Li Jingliang at UFC 267, he called out several great welterweight fighters. Many believe that he is on the path to becoming one of the best UFC fighters. However, he is yet to crack the top fighters in the division. His performance against the best fighters will be able to give viewers a better understanding of his skills.

Currently, Chimaev has an undisputed MMA record of 10 wins and 0 losses. Many fans compare him to the former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Only time can reveal how good of a fighter Chimaev really is.
