Both fighters are coming off incredible first-round TKO victories in their last performances in the octagon. Arman Tsarukyan landed a devastating left hook to end the bout between him and Christos Giagos. While Joel Alvarez, too, put on a clinical striking showcase against Thiago Moises.
Since losing his debut to Islam Makhachev, Tsarukyan has racked up four straight victories. He has secured wins over the likes of Olivier Aubin-Mercier, Davi Ramos, and Matt Frevola. Displaying an excellent striking and wrestling skill set, Tsarukyan is proving himself to be a real problem at lightweight.

Alvarez, on the other hand, is a giant at lightweight. Akin to his upcoming opponent, he is also on a four-fight win streak. Coming in at six feet three inches with a 77′ inch reach, ‘El Fenomeno’ towers above the rest of the division.
Alvarez is a well-rounded fighter with great striking and a versatile submission game. He is a legitimate finisher with three of his last four finishes coming by submission.
Arman Tsarukyan vs Joel Alvarez’s strengths and weaknesses comparison
Tsarukyan is an extremely well-rounded fighter who trains at American Top Team. The Armenian-born fighter has a phenomenal frame for the division and is extremely physical. He is the winner of the competitive 2018 Tiger Muay Thai tryouts and now also coaches there.
Tsarukyan has very good striking on the feet. He throws a variety of powerful kicks and has very crisp boxing. However, if the fight does hit the canvas, Tsarukyan displays excellent grappling and wrestling skills. This will be tested against Joel Alvarez.

Alvarez, on the other hand, is a very long fighter and uses his significant reach advantage to pick his opponents apart at range. The Spaniard isn’t afraid to take the fight to the ground, either. He has displayed excellent Jiu-Jitsu in his professional fights so far, with 16 finishes coming via submission.
