In a perfect world, Renato Moicano would beat Beneil Dariush at UFC 311 in January and then face the main event winner that same night when Islam Makhachev defends his lightweight title against Arman Tsarukyan. But the 35-year-old Brazilian admits that keeping busy is ultimately what matters most. He understands that the UFC may have other plans for the winner of the 155-pound title fight. That’s why Moicano is keeping his options open, and a suggestion about the possibility of facing Max Holloway in his return to the lightweight division immediately piqued his interest.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, Renato Moicano revealed that he would love to go one-on-one against Holloway for his BMF title: “I would love to do that, especially since Max Holloway now says he’s done at 145. If he really wants to be a 155’er, I think that would be an awesome fight, especially because that’s going to put me on track for a title shot. The 35-year-old fighter further added, “100 percent if you beat Max Holloway, you’re fighting for the title. It’s a fight that I would be willing to take 100 percent.”

Holloway claimed the BMF title with the 2024 Knockout of the Year when he defeated Justin Gaethje with just one second remaining at UFC 300 in April. After that stunning victory, Holloway returned to featherweight in October but fell short in his bid to regain the belt, suffering a knockout loss to Ilia Topuria. After that loss, Holloway announced his intention to permanently switch to lightweight, where he currently holds the BMF title and ranks among the world’s best.
