When UFC fighters get in a groove, there is little to stop them or deter them from aiming for the top spot. Sometimes, there are multiple fighters, gunning for it at a particular point in time, thereby guaranteeing a set of fiercely competitive and thrilling matches. UFC Welterweight champion Leon Edwards is, in all probability, defending his title against a hungry Colby Covington, sometime in July.
However, there is yet another fighter with his eye on the prize. Belal Muhammad of the Welterweight division believes he rightfully deserves the title shot against Leon Edwards as well since he has been a massively dominating force within the ring. Their rivalry and the fact that they are visibly desperate to have a go at each other, makes the future title match all the more thrilling for the fans.

Belal Muhammad – The rightful title contender?
Every fighter believes that they deserve a shot at the respective division title. However, seldom does it happen that they get what they think they deserve. Something similar happened with Belal Muhammad. Although the fighter has impressed the panel, UFC president Dana White, and the fans by putting on a display in all of his recent matches, he still hasn’t gotten his ‘well-deserved’ title shot.

In a recent interview with The Schmo, Muhammad let his opinions be heard. When the interviewer asked the fighter whether he was still being denied a title shot after he defeated Gilbert Burns at UFC 288, the fighter wasted no time in getting his point across.
“Oh I mean we’re guaranteed a title shot, we just gotta wait what happens with these two dorks – Colby and Leon. There’s nothing that’s coming from it so it’s – for me it’s like I’m hoping that Dana is realizing that you we got this guy that’s actually fighting – the guy that took a fight on three weeks’ notice – the guy that came off the couch – the guy that came and dominated a ranked opponent.” said Muhammad, trying to repress his frustration.
Talking about his dedication to the sport and his hunger for victory, Muhammad added, “Two weeks’ notice, during Ramadan, we called him and we needed him – he came and showed up. So maybe we’ll give him a title shot in Abu Dhabi, like Leon wants, which makes the most sense in the world, so. I’m hoping that’s what happens but you never know.”. The Welterweight, although deadly inside the ring, seemed unhappy with White’s championship fight card.

Dana White picks Covington for Edwards; Muhammad is benched for now
Leon Edwards had been facing backlash from Dana White when he asked for time before he put his title on the line again. However, the UFC president had other plans. Right from the get-go, White has been pushing for a match between Edwards and Covington, and from the looks of it, it might be happening. While the dates haven’t been confirmed yet, the formalities for the fight are underway. Leon Edwards, on the other hand, wanted to fight Belal Muhammad and defend his title against him. He outright rejected the fight against Covington initially but reports suggest that it is all set to take place in July.
