Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis have recently made headlines due to their ongoing feud. The UFC’s seasonal press conference witnessed both fighters playfully ribbing each other on stage. However, Du Plessis appeared to have hit a sensitive nerve with Strickland, delving into topics the latter had tried to keep hidden for years. The South African fighter made comments about Strickland’s challenging childhood and his tumultuous relationship with his father.

The aftermath of the comments was Strickland’s furious blows at Du Plessis at the UFC 296 event. The middleweight champ appeared as a guest on Theo Von’s podcast. However, his tone was different this time. Strickland in his statement asserted that he was on the verge of breaking down at the podcast.

Dricus Du Plessis’s comments seem to have taken a toll on the champion. Sean Strickland seldom shows any emotions but the press conference might have broken the inner child inside of him. Strickland had a very rough childhood with an abusive father who would hurt both Strickland and his mother. The advent of MMA in his life was a breakthrough for him to get away from the abuse.

The middleweight champ recently interacted with influencer and YouTuber Theo Von on his podcast. Strickland took to X (Formerly Twitter) to share the news that he wrapped up recording a podcast episode with comedian Theo Von for the upcoming edition of ‘This Past Weekend with Theo Von. He further added a tweet that took the fans by surprise.

In his tweet, Sean Strickland acknowledged that the interview was not his ‘finest moment,’ revealing that the conversation led the fighter to break down in tears. As he continued to share thoughts about the interview, Strickland added to the intrigue by stating that he ‘almost bit a hole’ through his lip while attempting to hold back his emotions.

Strickland’s confession left the fans confused because he seldom shares anything about his emotional status.

From the reactions, the fans are sympathizing with Strickland. They stated that it’s okay for Strickland to cry and that he shouldn’t be afraid to show his emotions. Nonetheless, Du Plessis’s statement has hit the champion and Strickland might go all hell loose on him at their faceoff on UFC 297. We will have to wait to find out.
