Conor McGregor and title shots might just be synonymous with each other; of course, not that all fans will agree to that. But there’s no denying that the Irishman has some sort of leverage when it comes to earning title shots, owing mainly to his obvious superstardom. Talking along these lines, Michael Bisping in his latest video, shared what he felt would be an accurate assessment of McGregor’s position if he eventually beats Michael Chandler. The two lightweights were part of the biggest announcement of this year when Dana White confirmed the duo’s participation as coaches in the upcoming season of TUF. Both the fighters are expected to clash inside the octagon as well once the season gets wrapped up.

Bisping, in this video, talked about a possible title shot for McGregor and how this match-up was a way more exciting deal for him than any other fight.

The Englishman might have had his share of back and forth with McGregor, but Bisping clearly believes that McGregor had the potential to beat Michael Chandler, even bringing up the scenes that could take place if that happened.

Bisping said, “I mean there is a potential that McGregor lights him up. There’s a potential that McGregor lands that left hand and knocks him out. Could you imagine? The world would lose its mind. The king is back, I’m not surprised all that type of stuff.” Although he then goes on to lay down his doubts on the possibility of that taking place. “But I don’t know if he will. I don’t know if he’s got the timing. I don’t know if the power is still there anymore you know.”

The former Middleweight champion also did not hesitate in claiming that the UFC would hand a title shot to the Irishman if he could pull off the win. “If McGregor doesn’t get it done, will it be the last time we see him in the Octagon? Potentially. If McGregor gets it done, will we see him fight for the belt next.? That is a given. That is 100%. Just prepare yourself mentally for that and regardless of whatever you think, he’s the biggest star in the sport. He’s a former two-weight Division champion and he’s a person that people want to see fight.”

Bisping even surprisingly claimed that he had no qualms in seeing McGregor fight for a title in case he won.”So if he goes out there and he beats Michael Chandler, who’s one of the top-ranked lightweights on the planet and he does it in exciting fashion, I’ll be honest I’d have no problem with him fighting for the belt,” stated the 46-year-old.

Bisping’s personal opinion on the fight

While talking about other possible matchups that were thrown around earlier, Bisping clearly expressed his excitement for this particular fight. Although he loved the idea of the two lightweights mentoring other fighters, the former champ felt that the eventual fight will be the ‘true icing on the cake’.

‘The Count’ also emphasized that McGregor snubbed a trilogy with Nate Diaz and a possible fight against Tony Ferguson and has chosen to fight Chandler. Notably, Chandler has called out McGregor on numerous occasions. In his post-fight interview after knocking out ‘El Cucuy’ at UFC 274, Chandler screamed, “Conor McGregor! You gotta come back and fight somebody. I am the most entertaining lightweight on the planet.”

Ultimately, although there has been no announcement on the Irishman’s fight and despite it seeming a bit far-fetched as of now, a title shot might not be too far away for the former double champ.
