After making his debut with the UFC in 2021, number five Lightweight Michael Chandler has never shied away from displaying his desire to fight possibly the greatest PPV star in Conor McGregor. After mentioning the Irishman’s name multiple names in his post-fight interviews, Chandler has finally landed a role for himself opposite McGregor in the upcoming TUF season. For the former Bellator champ, this comes as an opportunity to be a part of a possible record-breaking PPV in the eventual likelihood of them facing in the cage.

Although grateful, the 36-year-old also recognizes the pitfalls that come with standing opposite the MMA superstar, especially in a setting where the two are bound to find themselves face-to-face. While talking about a possible scenario where ‘The Notorious’ does cross the line with his remarks, Chandler revealed what would happen in that case as he sat down with Taylor Lewan of Bussin’ With The Boys.

Michael Chandler reveals how he’ll react if Conor McGregor resorts to personal attacks

While conversing with host Taylor Lewan, the duo went over how McGregor could possibly lash out at Chandler and verbally attack the American’s family. Since the 34-year-old Irishman did the same to Dustin Poirier before their third fight. Chandler did not act surprised when Lewan posed the question.

“The personal aspect. He’s coming at your family. Coming at your kids. Coming in all that stuff.” pointed out the host as they talked about the atmosphere inside the TUF setting.

Responding to this, Chandler didn’t hesitate in describing what would happen if such a scenario arose. “[If] that happens, someone is probably getting smacked. Ultimately, there are just lines that you don’t cross” stated the UFC lightweight.

In doing this, he has clearly sent out a warning to McGregor even before the commencement of any official promotions.

Lewan even suggested the 36-year-old brace himself up by warning his family and especially his wife prior. “You tell your wife, hey he might say things about you. He may say something about my two sons. “

Chandler on his mentality heading into the TUF house

Chandler clearly has no reason to be fazed by the presence of ‘Notorious’ since he has had his share of big fights and rivalries across Bellator and the UFC. But facing a star like the Irishman is clearly on a different plane altogether. Moreover, the former Bellator champ also acknowledges this. He talked about being prepared mentally before he headed into the TUF shooting.

“I’m going into it, not thinking it’s going to happen,” ‘Iron’ noted, pointing out the likelihood of McGregor talking about his family. He continued: “Never expecting it to happen so that I can just either lose it or be like ‘oh, okay. It just happened’. Like Hey Dana, Hunter, ESPN, if we do get into a fight and I knock this dude out, we can still fight right.?”

In a way, this statement was a representation of Chandler‘s in-cage mentality as well. The former Bellator champ likes to fight in the middle right off the button and this has often proved to be his shortcoming. Now as he heads into TUF, it should be most likely followed by a fight against McGregor; fans can only wonder if he will continue with the same strategy or will he choose a smarter approach.
