Mickey Gall is going to make his return at UFC 302, which is also his return to the promotion two years after he departed. He’ll take on Bassil Hafez in the early prelims. Though it would be an essential battle for the 32-year-old, this is not our subject of discussion today. The many aspects of a UFC fight also include the walkout and today we’ll find out Gall’s taste in music by looking at the songs he’s walked out to.

Walkout songs pretty much give us a picture of what’s going on in a fighter’s mind when they come out to fight inside the Octagon. Sometimes it can even be a reflection of a fighter’s personality. For Mickey Gall, he’s been a fan of only one song that has his name on the title.

Mickey Gall loves to walk out to only one song

Fighters often come out to some of the most popular and hard-hitting songs just for them to get in the zone before they clash with their opponents. But oftentimes, UFC fighters have even paid tribute to their culture or someone they’ve admired, something that Conor McGregor has done when he walked out to the late Sinead O’Connor‘s ‘The Foggy Dew’. But for Mickey Gall, he loves a song that has his name on the title – ‘Hey Mickey’, which was a song composed by Toni Basil.

‘Hey Mickey’ was a resounding hit during the 1980s. It was the biggest doing from Toni Basil’s first studio album ‘Word of Mouth’, released in 1981. However, that song wasn’t an original composition by Basil because it was first recorded by Racey, a pop group from Britain, and was named ‘Kitty’.

But the ‘Hey Mickey’ version was a different sound that had synthesizers, guitars, and, of course, cheerleading voices. Mickey Gall felt like that was the song for him and had walked out to that song for all his UFC fights.

Despite how much Mickey Gall loved the Toni Basil song, the CEO of the UFC, Dana White, did not look like he was a big fan. He even wanted to nix that song on Gall’s fight against CM Punk at UFC 203.

Dana White doesn’t like Gall’s choice of walkout music

On the UFC 203 embedded series, when the focus shifted from CM Punk to Mickey Gall in one of the episodes, the then 24-year-old would reveal that Dana White hated his song ‘Hey Mickey’. But why hate an iconic song that ran wild during the earlier ’80s? Well, because it did not have that it-factor because the UFC CEO wanted Gall to come out to a heavier song.

“I was gonna do my walkout song ‘Hey Mickey, You’re So Fine’. Yeah! Cos’ that would have been awesome. [But] he’s [Dana White] like he wants something harder,” said Mickey Gall. Nevertheless, Dana White went ahead with it and allowed the fighter to use that song, which he happily walked out to at UFC 203.
