Miesha Tate Says Julianna Pena and Herself Could Hunt Valentina Shevchenko Down

Julianna Pena has shocked the world after her sensational victory over Amanda Nunes in a title bout for the women’s bantamweight gold. Many have speculated that Julianna Pena may switch divisions to become a double champion herself. However, Julianna Pena’s friend Miesha Tate has revealed that ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ is also serious about the move.

In a recent interview with MMAJunkie, ‘Cupcake’ revealed that not only the bantamweight champ but, she is also considering a towards the lower division. Interestingly, both of them are aiming for the Flyweight gold.

“I know that Julianna can make 125 and I can make 125. There’s also those things too. It’s not out of the question for either of us to go hunting Valentina (Shevchenko) at some point. There’s lots of dynamics. I know she really wants that fight too so we’d have to see what happens if everything continues to play out in that direction, there’s always that possibility of us going to 125 for either of us too.” Tate said.

However, it won’t be a walk in the park, as the belt is currently in the possession of ‘The Bullet’ Valentina Shevchenko. The MMA world knows that Shevchenko is a force to reckon with.

But it will be interesting to see these fighters causing a change in the current status quo. And who knows? Maybe the ‘The Bullet’ comes for them first.

Miesha Tate believes Julianna Pena will defend her title in the rematch

UFC 269 presented MMA fans with one of the biggest upset victories in the UFC. Julianna Pena submitted then double champion Amanda Nunes in the 2nd round of the match with a Rear-Naked Choke. However, we saw ‘Cupcake’ rejoice while watching her friend do what she herself couldn’t.

Meanwhile, Tate believes that this wasn’t a fluke and claims that Pena can do it again in case of a rematch with ‘The Lioness’

“This definitely changes the entire landscape of the bantamweight division. I think what will be next will be Amanda and Julie. All signs point to that will be the next fight and I think Julie wins that fight again, especially because Amanda has already been broken by her once. I believe Julianna can definitely do that again, probably with more ease the second time. I need to get in the win column again so I will probably fight in March, probably is what I’m looking at. I don’t want to fight Julie because I’ve rooted for so long for her to get there.” Miesha Tate mentioned.
