Ciryl Gane had a very good night at UFC Fight Night in his hometown of Paris last night, where he made half a million dollars in only show money. In a clinical performance, he was able to stop Moldovan opponent Sergey Spivak in two rounds after having dominated him throughout the fight.

This victory would have been a much-needed boost to his confidence after his disheartening first-round loss to Jon Jones at UFC 285. But, his night took a turn when he reached home and discovered that he had been robbed.

Ciryl Gane, reportedly a victim of burglary

According to the French news outlet ‘Le Parisien,’ Gane’s apartment in the Nogent-sur-Marne commune in the eastern suburbs of Paris was burgled during UFC Fight Night Paris. Police were reportedly called to the apartment at 7:30 local time. Their early investigation revealed that the thief/thieves broke in through the front door around the same time the Frenchman was fighting Spivak.

Items worth around 150k euros were stolen, including a Rolex and jewelry, according to reports. Sources close to Gane have told Le Parisien that burglars may either have scouted the house or may have been tipped off by someone in Gane’s camp. The burglary, no doubt, would have dampened Gane’s celebrations after his emphatic win. An investigation has been opened by the Val-de-Marne territorial security anti-burglary cell in the case.

Gane gets one step closer to a third title shot

In a barren UFC heavyweight division, Gane might see himself face heavyweight champion Jon Jones in the near future. Jones will face Stipe Miocic in his next fight, and a potential fight between ‘Bon Gamin’ and up-and-coming UFC star Tom Aspinall might serve as a title eliminator.

Gane has come up short with disappointing performances in his previous two title shots against Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones, and even his coach Fernand Lopez, has admitted to having no idea what went wrong against Jones. This is why not many are enthusiastic about a Jones-Gane rematch. What fans really want is a clash between heavyweight titans Ngannou and Jones. But Ngannou’s exit on bad terms seems to have closed the door on it. Perhaps temporarily, or perhaps for good.
