What happened at the UFC Vegas 72 main event?

The main event of the UFC Vegas 72 was nothing short of an enthraller. Both the UFC Bantamweights, Song Yadong, and Ricky Simon put up a superb show for the audiences. However, the latter’s efforts fell short of earning him a victory against his Chinese opponent.

Song Yadong, put his superb boxing prowess on display as he started landing shots on his opponent right from the beginning bell. He also approached pretty close to a first-round stoppage. In the ending seconds of the first round, Yadong put Simon in a tight guillotine choke which could have been curtains for the US native. But he managed to escape it.

However, in the fifth round, Yadong attacked Simon with one more combination driving him to the ground. The following ground-and-pound was enough for referee Herb Dean to call an end to the bout.

Post his superb victory, the Chinese fighter was interviewed by the famed Daniel Cormier. Yadong revealed his two preferred bouts, stating that he would either like to fight the famed UFC Bantamweight, ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley, or go for a rematch against the noted Ecuadorian Bantamweight, Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera, whom he had beaten in 2020.
