What happened at UFC Vegas 73?

UFC Vegas 73 proved to be worthy of the fans’ expectations with the exhibition of several exciting bouts. The main event of the night between the noted Mackenzie Dern and Angela Hill showcased the former’s dominance. Dern tasted success with both her striking and ground game. She started off the bout in majestic fashion and landed several strikes.

Also, the ground-and-pound showcased in the first and third rounds by her left no doubts in the judges’ minds. They scored the bout 49-43, 49-44 & 49-44 in Dern’s favor.

The co-main event of the night was an equally enthralling one with Anthony Hernandez finishing off Edmen Shahbazyan via a TKO in the third round. The fight was quite evenly matched up until Hernandez started showcasing his grappling skills. At about 1:01 of round 3, Hernandez took Shahbazyan down and applied a few brutal elbows. It compelled referee, Herb Dean, to end the fight there only declaring Hernandez as the winner.

With a few other exciting bouts showcasing Joaquin Buckley’s superb skills and Michael Johnson going to sleep, it won’t be wrong to say the UFC Vegas 73 was an absolute enthraller.

The head honcho of ‘Matchroom Sports’ and one of the promoters of this bout, Eddie Hearn, described McGregor’s reaction after Taylor’s loss. The 43-year-old stated, “His [McGregor’s] involvement was great. He was gutted when Gary Cully lost, and he’s gutted when Katie Taylor lost,”. Hearn added, “He understands the game, and if you are in great fights, you get beat.”

McGregor has always been passionate about anything related to his motherland. Hence, his disappointment at his own countrymate’s loss was quite understandable. Do you think McGregor will continue to support Taylor even after this loss?
