MMA Stars Join Hands as 30-Year-Old Female Fighter’s Heartbreaking Request Raises Almost $10,000 in a Strong Show of Solidarity

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has provided a platform for martial arts enthusiasts for showcasing their skills and competing for the championship title. However, the UFC world is also known for being stringent with the fighter’s pay. However, the meager savings of the fighters often fail to cover the expenses during medical emergencies.

One such fighter, Maria Jose Garcia Favela was recently diagnosed with lymphatic cancer. She revealed that she was in dire need of financial support. The well-known MMA reporter, Alex Behunin, extended a helping hand to the mixed martial artist. The reporter shared the fighter’s message on Twitter. Additionally, he shared a link where the public can chip in and join hands to financially aid the MMA fighter combat the disease.

The Mexican fighter, nicknamed ‘Majo Leona’, recently let the world know about her unfortunate encounter with lymphatic cancer. While the fighter has faced off against the disease, she revealed that she required financial support in order to defeat the disease. She took to social media and shared a tear-jerking message asking for help.

Behunin seemed to have heard the plea and swooped in to help the Mexican in whatever way he could. He took to Twitter and shared a picture of the warrior lying on the hospital bed along with her message. Moreover, the famed reporter shared a ‘gofundme’ link. Cynthia Calvillo started it for anyone who could extend a helping hand to the ‘Lioness’.

“I Am So Terrified of Cancer”: MMA Community Shattered as Former UFC Fighter Announces Devastating News

Behunin wrote, “MMA fighter Maria José Favela has been diagnosed with lymphatic cancer and cannot cover the costs. Cynthia Calvillo has started a gofundme for some help.” The act seemed to have amassed a value of around $10,000 within 9 hours.

Chris Curtis also hopped in to help the fighter. He wrote, “Just found out a great friend, teammate and little sister, Majo, is battling at 30. This girl is a born fighter and she has no plans on giving up. If you can donate to her treatment it will be a blessing beyond words. Thank you.”

But what exactly did the MMA fighter in question reveal about her condition and what message did she relay to the fans?

A plea for help from the ‘Lioness’

In her message, ‘Majo Leona’ revealed that she had given her all to sports. Although she has fought five battles in the UFC, her toughest battle is indeed against her disease. She wasn’t prepared, financially or mentally, to face it. Moreover, her family could not cover the costs anymore.

Undeniably, medical bills exceed all expectations when it comes to orphan diseases like cancer. Favela is, unfortunately, one of the few souls who has fallen victim to the disease. Finally, she declared that her life depends on help and asked for the netizens’ support in fighting off the disease.
