UFC Bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley‘s title win over Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292 might have been one of the most crucial wins for the promotion this year. This changes the trajectory for the entire division. UFC President Dana White seems to be very happy with the outcome as are all O’Malley fans.
However, this fairytale-like story had its fair share of grueling. O’Malley’s victory came with a price, that he had to pay before he even stepped into the ring. Now that he is the champ, O’Malley has uploaded a video where he is seen talking about the injuries he was dealing with, even before going into the fight against Sterling.

Sean O’Malley fought through an immense amount for pain ahead of UFC 292
There have been times when UFC fighters have addressed their professional losses to certain injuries that they were suffering from. However, a lot of fighters keep it to themselves, win on the big day, and then talk about it. Apparently, UFC Bantamweight champ Sean O’Malley was dealing with a lot of injuries and physical restraints when he fought Aljamain Sterling and took the division belt from him.
The fighter recently uploaded a video which was a compilation of some behind-the-scenes footage of people celebrating O’Malley’s magnificent KO win. However, in a large section of the video, O’Malley was seen talking about his injuries as well.

“We haven’t grappled in six weeks,” said O’Malley as a member of his camp reminded him of his back injury that he suffered even before the camp started. “Oh my God! [inaudible] shots on my back before we even started camp,” recalled the champ. It was then revealed in the video that O’Malley suffered another grave injury around the time of the Aljamain Sterling vs. Henry Cejudo fight. The person claimed that the champ was unable to train for 6 weeks. O’Malley corrected him and countered saying, “10 weeks.“.

“This was the first time I hadn’t ran. [Inaudible] plus, it was the first time I didn’t run on the treadmill. The first camp ever – I’ve ever done without it. Cause my knees… weren’t – weren’t feeling great.“, remembered O’Malley. However, his knee was not the only thing that was letting him down. “My left toe… bouncing around here on these mats… I was like ‘F**k!’ It hurt just to turn over too.“, revealed O’Malley.
There is no doubt that winning his title bout at UFC 292 took a great deal out of ‘Sugar’. Summarizing his state of mind in the ring, O’Malley revealed his simple mantra. “I was like pain’s just… get through this f*****g fight.“.

One fan analyzed the mistake that Aljamain Sterling made and pointed it out for others to see.
Crazy, all Aljo had to do was get it to the ground once and it would've been game over. That's gotta hurt to know he risked that entry like that when he didn't need to.

Some fans seemed to think that O’Malley was too brittle for the game and that he always kept sustaining injuries after fights.
he's so brittle but he makes up for it with his crazy striking

I don’t think there’s ever been a title fight where the both the winner and loser didn’t talk about some type of injury or weight cut issue after the fight that they had. Just keep it to yourself bro.

It is truly commendable to see that Sean O’Malley overcame such steep personal challenges to win that title. However, now, the question being asked is who is next? Now that Sean O’Malley has called out Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera, will the UFC make it happen? Or does Cory Sandhagen vs. Sean O’Malley just sound right?
