Trash talking is borderline art. It takes a lot more than just words coming out of your mouth to get into another person’s head. The flow of words, the timing, getting down to a personal level, the whole shebang. Colby Covington isn’t just a natural trash talker, but he’s an annoying one in most terms.

Discussing his character and persona that he’s taken up in the UFC, Joe Rogan goes into why his trash talk can be so annoying, yet so effective, at the same time.

Joe Rogan stated, “That style of s*** talking is infuriating. And you can’t say a goddamn thing to him because he’s in a character. So if he pisses you off, you say something back to him. I want you to go suck Trump’s d***! ‘Like I would! Mr. Trump’s a good man. I bet his d*** tastes like lollipops.’ He can say whatever he wants, man.”

Rogan clearly believes that Covington is keeping up a farce to project himself as the big bad villain in the UFC. His intention to play psychological games on his opponents gives him more of an edge in the octagon.

What makes Covington’s trash talk so compelling and unbearable is that he genuinely sells himself as this uptight, irrational villain that’s out there to create a problem. This way, he intends to reflect on his opponent’s opinion of him to use it to his advantage.

Has Jorge Masvidal fallen prey to Colby Covington and his trash talk?

Ahead of their fight in UFC 272, Covington and Masvidal have faced off and sat through pressers, with both of them going at each other. One might wonder if all that trash talk from Covington’s side had any effect on Masvidal.

Granted, Masvidal was previously friends with Covington, which could help the former see-through Covington like looking through glass. The conflict being real could be making Covington mean all his offenses thrown at Masvidal.

Either way, the only way to judge Masvidal would be through his temperament and overall composure moments before his fight. Things could go horribly south for Masvidal if he were to let all of Colby’s words enter his head.
