Julianna Pena had one of the most iconic wins of 2021 at UFC 269. Pena took on the then-champion, Amanda Nunes, and strapped her off her bantamweight belt after a second-round submission victory. The fighter not only won the bantamweight title, but also won the ‘Performance of the Year’ award for her upset victory against Nunes.

In an interview with Joe Rogan, Julianna Peña criticized the former UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, for downplaying her success in front of the media. After her massive victory against Amanda Nunes, the Russian downplayed her win when a reporter questioned him on bringing a women’s division to Eagle FC.

She told Joe Rogan, “I am still angry about him! Not giving me any credit and actually talking crap about me, but Khabib, he retired on his own terms… He was just completely downgrading the whole win and everything like that…”

She added, “he must be friends with Kayla Harrison or something. I don’t know. Cause he was like, if this is the top of the women’s division, it’s a joke. I mean, like. Well, it wasn’t very nice. I didn’t appreciate it, Khabib!”

What’s next for Julianna Pena?

After her win against Amanda Nunes at UFC 269 last year, ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ immediately agreed to offer the Brazilian a rematch. Julianna Pena will most likely face off against Nunes once more, with the bantamweight title on the line, this year.

If the Nunes bout does not take place, the PFL superstar, Kayla Harrison, could be next for the champion. Harrison is currently a free agent and is in the talks to sign with the UFC. If the fighter signs with the UFC, this fight would definitely be a huge one for the UFC.
