Islam Makhachev has won over the world of mixed martial arts with his commendable skills. Not only did the Dagestani warrior defeat Charles Oliveira and claimed the lightweight title, but also secured a victory over Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski. With one title shot victory and one successful title defense, the fighter has begun the rise to the top.
However, it was later revealed that his mother did not want him to fight anymore. Without a doubt, it’s the protective nature of motherly love that made her request the lightweight champ to retire from the UFC. However, in a recent conversation with John McCarthy and Josh Thomson, the 31-year-old revealed the real reason why he hasn’t taken retirement from mixed martial arts. Surprisingly, Makhachev’s father had a heavier presence in the matter.

Islam Makhachev reveals why he hasn’t retired even after his mother’s request
Recently, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s protégé had a talk with the UFC referee, McCarthy, and the former mixed martial artist, ‘The Punk’. During the conversations, McCarthy pointed out that Makhachev’s mother was trying to convince him to take retirement from the UFC. However, his father loved to watch him fight. The UFC referee seemingly asked for the reason why the lightweight champion hasn’t announced his retirement.
Makhachev revealed, “But my dad have more power.” The reply sent the three men bursting with laughter. However, he quickly defended his mother. The fighter revealed that it was the love of a mother that made her request her son to give up fighting. He said, “I think all mothers say same things because this is not easy sports.”
