UFC 300 witnessed the clash between debutant Kayla Harrison and former bantamweight champion, Holly Holm. As much as one might have liked to watch the classic Holm in action, the story ended a bit rough. There was a huge difference between the skill levels of both the fighters as after a successful first round by Harrison, ‘Doug’ took center stage to submit the former champ to clinch the victory.
The fight was brutal for Holm and Dana White smelled it from afar. At the UFC 300 presser, the UFC head honcho added a statement that was a bit of a shock to the MMA community. White claimed that he would love to see Holm retire. A day after White’s statement, Holm has come forward with her own statement.

There was once a time when Holly Holm was considered to be unstoppable when she defeated Ronda Rousey back in 2015 to clinch the bantamweight title from the MMA queen. Her victory against Rousey was one of the biggest upsets in the promotion’s history to date. However, the victory might have made her the champion but it seriously messed up her record. Since her victory against Rousey, Holm has gone 5-7.

Unintentionally responding to Dana White’s retirement jibe, ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ took to her social media to add an emotional take on her journey. “Well none of that went how I had envisioned over the last 10 weeks of this training camp.I have no excuses. I had all the best coaching, the best teammates, the best sparring, all the help I could have even dreamed of asking for. I went out there and I lost all focus on the game plan. I did nothing that we trained for in this fight. All the respect to Kayla, she was the better fighter tonight” said Holm in her statement.

Talking to the media, the UFC CEO said, “I did see the reaction, I like it.I thought she retired too soon anyway. I like that she is intrigued by this fight, I love it. And I love Amanda. Her and I have an incredible relationship and I think she is the greatest of all time in woman’s combat sports. If Kayla can get in there and win a title, it would absolutely be fun to see her (Nunes) come back to try to win it again.”
