Where Nate Diaz goes, chaos usually follows. And that’s not an overstatement by a long shot. The Stockton native has found himself in just as many street altercations as he has battles inside the Octagon. Most recently, his ALF reality show with Jon Jones turned into a mess when a fighter named Zalik tried to mess around with him, leading to a full-blown brawl. Lucky for everyone, no water bottles were lying around this time, as he had a history of using them lethally.

Diaz has never been the type to back down from anything. Over the years, he’s been in plenty of heated rivalries, but none more iconic than the one with Conor McGregor. They went to war for ten full rounds, beating each other and leaving fans with memories they won’t forget. But honestly, the bad blood didn’t just stay in the cage. Things got real at the UFC 202 pre-fight press conference when Diaz and his crew started chucking water bottles at McGregor and stormed out of the arena.

Another chaotic moment went down this year, too. Back at UFC 311, it wasn’t McGregor on the receiving end, it was Islam Makhachev during the early UFC 311 pre-fight press conference in December 2024. Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan handled business in front of the media. But backstage, things got wild when their teams clashed, throwing water bottles at each other. Diaz was there supporting his boy Kron Gracie, who was about to fight Bryce Mitchell at UFC 310, and later claimed he didn’t even know Islam was around when the bottle war happened.

Reflecting on his habit, Diaz told in the HJR Podcast, “Imma a counter fighter! If you f– with me over there like and I’m standing with a bottle. Shut up b— that’s ain’t gonna hurt you. Well, let me tell you something!…I got this bottle, I stay hydrated! I always have water on me, no matter where I’m at. You should see my next to my room I got freaking 15 bottles of water from every night.”

That’s about as Diazesque of an answer as it gets. The Stockton slap might be his signature move, but let’s be real, water bottles have become his go-to missiles when the beef’s brewing from a distance. What’s wild is that the UFC 311 backstage incident hasn’t really been linked to Diaz by fans, even though he’s got a bit of history with the Dagestani crew, especially Khabib. Let’s not forget, back in 2015, Nate and Khabib actually threw hands in a wild brawl in Las Vegas.

Now, this year, there’s been talk about his recent brawl in Thailand. It’s been suspected that brawl may have kicked off because he’s not exactly a fan of Dagestani fighters. That whole situation spiraled fast and got way out of hand. While a few voices spoke out against him, Chael Sonnen surprisingly stepped up and showed him some much-needed support.

Chael Sonnen was about to fly to Thailand to defend Nate Diaz

As we’ve seen time and time again, Diaz isn’t afraid to throw hands, no matter the situation. But his run on the ALF reality show alongside Jon Jones didn’t exactly have a smooth ending. According to his longtime friend Jake Shields, things got sketchy afterward too. Apparently, when Diaz and his crew were heading back, they were chased down by a group of Russian guys on motorbikes.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Nate Diaz the ultimate chaos magnet, or just misunderstood in the fight world?

Have an interesting take?

Jon Jones later dropped a video confirming that Diaz had been replaced and wouldn’t be part of the show anymore. Most folks didn’t seem too fazed by his exit, but Chael Sonnen wasn’t about to let it slide. Once he found out the whole brawl might’ve been premeditated and that Diaz was genuinely concerned, he even reached out to Diaz’s teammate, Gilbert Melendez, ready to fly out to Thailand and handle it himself.

‘The Bad Guy’ in his YouTube video said, “I have already spoke to Gilbert Melendez. I will assure you we will be going out there. Interpret that however you want. And I assure you, as we’re going there, we are going to be collecting people. And we know lots of people. It looked like a nut. It looked like some jerk that was looking for attention, but he was also creating a bit of a dangerous environment. If that happens again, Gilbert and I will be headed to Thailand to find out what that was.”

Sonnen’s been out of the fight game for years now, but people tend to forget, this is still ‘The American Gangster’ we’re talking about. The same guy who flew to Brazil to film The Ultimate Fighter with Wanderlei Silva after trashing the entire country on live TV. So honestly, who knows? Maybe he really would’ve gone to Thailand too.

Now that would’ve been an insane twist. But with all that said, what do you think? Could Chael Sonnen actually step in and replace him on the ALF reality show? Or will Diaz make a wild return, water bottles locked and loaded? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
