Remember the time when Nate Diaz choked out a Logan Paul lookalike? The incident took place in 2023, amid the buzz of a potential boxing match between Jake Paul and Nate Diaz. It happened on the streets of New Orleans, where Diaz was in the stands supporting their teammate, Chris Avila, who was fighting on a Misfits Boxing card at the XULA Convention Center. After Avila’s fight, a man resembling Logan Paul—later identified as Rodney Petersen—approached Nate. What followed was a brief but intense altercation caught on video: Nate Diaz quickly subdued the man with a chokehold, leaving him unconscious. Rodney Petersen later filed a lawsuit against Diaz. But what happened next? Let’s find out.

After the Bourbon Street brawl, Petersen, who goes by the alias ‘Not Logan Paul’ on social media, sued Nate Diaz for multiple damages. Reports indicate that Diaz was sued for “severe bodily injuries, including but not limited to injuries to the head, neck, and brain; pain and suffering; mental anguish; loss of enjoyment of life; psychological distress; medical expenses; and lost income and earning capacity.” Not only Petersen, but his wife Bobbie was also mentioned in the lawsuit, alleging damages that include “loss of consortium, loss of services, loss of support, and loss of affection and care.”

Too many allegations for a single chokehold. For crying out loud, Nate Diaz turned himself in to the police for prosecution, but the judges dropped the charges due to a lack of proper evidence. “The 2nd-degree battery charge against Mr. Nathan Diaz was refused by the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office. After reviewing all available evidence related to the allegation, including video and testimony, there is not sufficient support to prove the alleged crime,” said Keith D. Lampkin, the office’s Chief of Operations & External Affairs.

Since the charges were dropped, one might think that Nate Diaz didn’t pay anything to the Logan Paul lookalike. However, that’s not the case. The UFC fighter did pay a considerable sum to settle the lawsuit, not because he was charged by the courts, but because he wanted to avoid a lengthy legal battle. While having a conversation with Rampage Jackson and the host of ‘The HJR podcast’, Nate Diaz revealed, “I won. I was winning, but, uh, I had to—it was gonna just go forever, and I was gonna pay more in lawyer fees. So I just ended up paying them 18K because my lawyer bills were up to 17K. Yeah, so it cost me like 30 grand. I’m like, I get sued by everybody. I’m always—I guarantee you I got the record.”

Nate Diaz’s immediate team clarified that he was acting in self-defense and that it was his right to do so. Altercation and Diaz have almost become synonymous, as the Stockton native has always been a controversial figure, though hopefully for his own betterment. How? Due to his controversial nature, Diaz always remains under the spotlight, staying relevant despite walking away from the UFC.

Recently, Nate Diaz was involved in another altercation, but this time it wasn’t even his fault. At the Russian counterpart of HUF, Diaz had an intense confrontation with a contestant. Let’s take a closer look at what happened.

He further added, “He wanted to play-fight with Nate. Nate kind of came in a little bit on edge. I think he had some previous beef with some Russian fighters. So he was a little bit on edge when he got here. Play-fighting with Nate was not the best idea. It became serious right away, and we had to replace Nate.” Jake Shields, who was a part of Nate Diaz’s team, said that the situation escalated pretty quickly when Zalik tried to grab Diaz. Jon Jones agrees to this statement.

Jon Jones further explained that this altercation was something entirely different—something he had never witnessed before in his MMA career. “I don’t think there’s a lot of that here. Some guys are like warriors, and some guys are really just kind of street fighters. There’s insults, there’s weapons, this show — there’s nothing like it. There’s really nothing like it.”

As for the aftermath, both Nate Diaz and Jake Shields left the reality show, leaving its outcome unresolved. Regardless, Nate Diaz and an altercation have always had a cordial relationship. Given that, what are your thoughts on the hubbub? State your opinion in the comments below.
