The controversy surrounding the objection laid by NBA star Stephen Curry and his wife Ayesha Curry to an affordable housing project has picked up the pace of late. The couple had expressed their disapproval of a three-story construction next to their mansion in an email to officials of Atherton, claiming it would be a concern for the safety of their family. Atherton, considered among the most expensive addresses by Forbes, has houses that are valued at $7 million on average. Not surprisingly, the Curry couple is not the only one opposing the housing plan. Along with them, neighboring billionaire Marc Andreessen had also voiced his resistance earlier.

The email also requested that in the scenario of the project moving ahead, taller fencing be done around it so that it may prevent sight lines into the Curry residence. Surprisingly, the duo is quite well known for voicing their opinions on social issues. Thus, it came as a shock to many that they would oppose the affordable housing project. And surprisingly, a retired UFC fighter is among many who criticized the NBA star and his wife over the topic. Read on to find out more.

Tim Kennedy calls out Stephen curry and his wife Ayesha curry over an Email opposing Atherton’s three-story project

Former UFC fighter and US soldier Tim Kennedy has launched an attack on Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry in one of his latest tweets. The 43-year-old, while retweeting a tweet by the New York Post, wrote: “Wait… let me get this right. An outspoken socialist is fine with giving to the poor as long as it is at other peoples expense and not his own.”

The article covered Curry’s email to Atherton officials objecting to the three-story project. The star couple, although, did maintain that they did not want to be a part of the elitist rhetoric. Their concerns were more about the family’s privacy, especially with regard to their kids.

The Email to Atherton officials stated: “We hesitate to add to the ‘not in our backyard’ (literally) rhetoric, but we wanted to send a note before today’s meeting, Safety and privacy for us and our kids continues to be our top priority and one of the biggest reasons we chose to live in Atherton as home.” It continued to point out how the density inside the housing project would affect safety for their family, “With the density being proposed for 23 Oakwood, there are major concerns in terms of both privacy and safety with three-story townhomes looming directly behind us”

The email from the Curry family did suggest fencing in case the project would go ahead.

“We kindly ask that the town adopts the new housing element without the inclusion of 23 oakwood. Should that not be sufficient for the state, we ask that the town commits to investing in considerably taller fencing and landscaping to block sight lines onto our family’s property.”

Although there are also suggestions that Ayesha Curry is not against the project as long as their privacy is safeguarded. In that sense, she was specifically against the three-story building as it would overlook their residence. Thus, even fencing, as mentioned in the email, won’t be solving the issue in the case of a taller building.

As per reports, December saw Atherton officials come against denser housing constructions at Oakwood; which is near Curry’s residence. But it recently also added back the previous zoning changes in its plan.

Now, the area is home to multiple millionaires and famous personalities; including billionaire venture capitalist Marc Andreessen. Andreessen had two years back resisted a plan to rezone the town in an email to the mayor of Atherton. Thus, if other personalities come up in support of the couple in their objection to the project, it really won’t be a surprise.
