Add to that the fact that McGregor also suffered a gruesome leg injury during the fight. The injury will keep him away from the action for some time and many believe this is the end of ‘Notorious.’ McGregor himself, however, does not believe that as he has instantly called out Poirier for a 4th fight.

However, a 4th fight seems unlikely for now, as Poirier will challenge for the title next. As for McGregor, he has now got a medical suspension till January 2022. Therefore, it seems highly unlikely that a fight between the two fighters will happen again anytime soon.
The loss against Poirier cost McGregor a lot as he has gone down by 2 in the UFC lightweight rankings. The former two-divisional UFC champion is now ranked No.7 in the UFC rankings. ‘Notorious’ has not been so down in the UFC rankings for a long time and that would really hurt the fighter.

Can Conor McGregor challenge for the UFC title one more time?
Many believed that McGregor’s fight against Poirier at UFC 264 was his best chance of getting a title opportunity. The UFC lightweight division is probably the toughest UFC division, full of a plethora of talented fighters. Therefore, many believe that it will be difficult for McGregor to get a title shot anytime soon.

Many fans also believe that ‘Notorious’ himself does not have the drive left in him to fight at the top level. People believe that as McGregor has achieved everything there is in MMA, he is not motivated enough to win. However, if there is one thing we know, McGregor has the ability to surprise anyone, and we might yet see ‘Notorious’ back at his best in the UFC.
