UFC commentator Joe Rogan recalled the incident, talking to standup comedian Stavros Halkias. Rogan was hosting Halkias on his popular podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’. Episode 1909 saw the duo talking about a lot of topics. Janet Jackson, Timberlake, and their controversy popped up during the show. Halkias said that Janet Jackson was the one who faced the consequences.

In 2004, Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake were performing the popular number “Rock Your Body” during the halftime show at the NFL super-bowl. At the end of the song, Timberlake pulled a piece of Jackson’s clothing that exposed her right breast. MTV produced the show. As the controversy spread like wildfire, all hell broke loose on Janet Jackson and MTV.

Joe Rogan recalls Janetgate:

Joe Rogan was talking about a restaurant that had a playboy themed washroom and how the management had covered up all the ni****s with tapes when he stumbled across Janet Jackson. He said,” Breasts are the weirdest fu**** things. In that regard.
It’s just something about showing a ni***e. Janet Jackson did that at the Super Bowl and people were like what the f*** is happening?”

Stavros Halkias had a very clear opinion on the aftermath of the incident. He felt Janet Jackson bore the brunt. He said, “She got set up, Janet Jackson got f**ked, she is the only one who is like suffering from consequences.”

Janet Jackson and CBS faced severe backlash

Janet Jackson, who is the tenth and the youngest kid of the Jackson family, had to face severe backlash following the incident. She was blacklisted from the industry by the then-CEO of CBS. Jackson then experienced reduced radio AirPlay, television promotions, and sales figures. CBS was levied heavy fines too. The Federal Communications Commission imposed a fine of a huge sum of $550,000. The fine was, however, later voided.
