When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. If not for us, it is that simple for Nick Diaz. The legendary mixed martial artist has made his name in combat sports through his iconic antics, unforgettable moments inside the Octagon, and at times walking out of or simply not even showing up for events. Such was his meteoric rise to fame that soon he was on the verge of having his own documentary. But Diaz had other plans, which worked out pretty well for Michael Bisping instead.

As Michael Bisping sat down on his podcast ‘BELIEVE YOU ME’, he talked about the making of his documentary, Bisping: The Michael Bisping Story. The revelation he made left his guest for the day gob smacked, and the UFC legend Paul Felder was shocked as well. ‘The Count’ revealed that after Nick Diaz’s exit from the project, his friend Yas chanced upon the opportunity and landed Bisping the spot to feature in the documentary.

The former UFC middleweight champion revealed, “They were supposed to do a documentary on Nick Diaz. Yes, I should have probably said this; they couldn’t find him. (He never showed up, he’s stealing everything he’s working for.) No, but he never showed up for like the first two or three days of scheduled shoots and interviews and stuff like that. He just no-showed, and they’re like, “All right, we’re not making a Hollywood blockbuster here, but still there’s a budget and there’s money that’s going to go to waste.”

He further added, “Of course, so he never showed up for the first couple of days, and they were like, and then someone, a good buddy of mine, Yas, he’s like, I’ve got someone. That’s got a good story, let’s do a documentary on him. That’s how that came around.” And this just goes to prove how one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. What Nick Diaz didn’t value enough led to one of the most honorable moments of a sportsman’s career for Bisping. The documentary follows the life and struggles of Bisping on his journey to UFC glory and was a great addition to the decorated life of the UFC Hall of Famer.

Just like many legends before him, he stood in front of the whole competition and, even with one working eye, beat one of the greatest ever on his path to the UFC Hall of Fame.

Michael Bisping’s biggest moments in the UFC

Throughout his career, ‘The Count’ has delivered numerous unforgettable moments that have solidified his legacy in mixed martial arts. This ultimate trash talker of the UFC was a star of the promotion, who at times, was even taking over names like Chael Sonnen in the department. But his true MMA professional persona came to light when he was standing against ‘The Spider,’ and this was the biggest day for him to back up his words.

In 2016, Bisping faced the former middleweight champion and legend Anderson Silva at UFC Fight Night 84 in London. Their bout was a back-and-forth battle, with Bisping showing off his striking prowess and resilience. Despite a controversial moment where Silva landed a flying knee at the end of the third round, believing he had won, the fight continued, and Bisping ultimately earned a unanimous decision victory.

Back at UFC 100, Bisping had suffered a devastating knockout at the hands of Dan Henderson. Seven years later, at UFC 204, he faced Henderson again, but this time with the middleweight title on the line. Despite an early adversity, including a knockdown for Henderson in the first round, Bisping rallied to secure a unanimous decision victory. This win was particularly poignant, as Bisping fought with impaired vision due to a detached retina sustained in a previous bout.

These moments are just some of many reasons why Michael Bisping is such an important figure in MMA today. His contribution to the sport has been immaculate, and even as an analyst, he is nailing the job. Who should be next in line for a documentary in the UFC? What do you think?
