Chael Sonnen is one of the most fascinating characters in all of MMA. Inspired by professional wrestling and armed with a keen sense of how the fight business works, Sonnen would find creative and hilarious ways to promote himself and his fights.
Like the time he lost the middleweight title via submission to Anderson Silva in the fifth round, after having had the upper hand in the preceding rounds. The Oregonian would go on to walk around with a replica belt. He would (jokingly) say he thought tapping meant he lost the round rather than the fight, which he had dominated until the submission.

His verbal battles with Tito Ortiz and Wanderlei Silva are some of the best trash talk in the history of MMA. So, it was natural that he be part of the UFC commentary team after retirement. However, in December 2021, he was charged with misdemeanor battery charges in Las Vegas, which prompted his exit from the commentary team. However, Sonnen has reportedly reached a plea agreement earlier this month, paving the way for his return.

This is what fans had to say on ‘The Bad Guy’s return on Reddit:
- “OP spreading news the same way Chael does.”
- “The man, the myth, the legend.”
- “I’m relatively new to this sport but I’ve watched for 4 years and I’ve watched every single card and most fight nights. I have no recollection of ever hearing chael call a fight before
- Undefeated. Undisputed. Never lost a round. Uncle Chael is back in the chair.”
- “I’m so happy to see this. I will not order any PPV that Bisping is ringside commentary. Last time they stuck him on the desk and only let him talk in between fights. That was better. Great fighter, but can’t call a fight to save his life.”
- “No BMF title without Chael in the house”
- “Some of the people hating on Chael make me sick. Undefeated, undisputed. None of you would walk the streets of West Lynn without fear coursing through your nervous system.”
- “Bashing Nganou vs fury paid off I guess. He’s got the job.”
- “Return of the King”

Chael and his fans jokingly call him “undefeated, undisputed,” who has “never lost a round”. While that may be an overstatement (and also blatantly false) in the cage, but when it comes to talking, there is no doubt that he is indeed undisputed and undefeated. Which is why fans are excited to have him back.
