No matter who a UFC event features, talks about Jon Jones and Conor McGregor are never out of the picture. And exactly that happened during the press conference for UFC 305. With the UFC heavyweight champion itching to return from his injury and fight Stipe Miocic sometime in November, all eyes were focused on the cards. However, the UFC CEO, Dana White, revealed that it was yet to be made.

On top of that, he revealed some disappointing news about the Irish fighter’s return to the UFC. Let’s see what the UFC CEO said.

Dana White reveals insights about Jon Jones and Conor McGregor’s return

At the UFC 305 pre-fight press conference, one of the reporters asked White about the card for Jones. The UFC heavyweight champion has been asking for a fight sometime in November for a long time. It is indeed high time for the champ to return from his pectoral injury, don’t you think? Even ‘The Silencer’ has agreed with the fight being held in November.

But the card had yet to be made. The UFC CEO said, “There’s not yet but there will be. There’s not yet. And we were literally talking about that today. We’ll start building that card soon.”

Immediately after White revealed insights about Jones’ card, the reporter asked if he and McGregor talked about the Irishman’s return. She pointed out that the ‘Mystic Mac’ and the White were spotted in Sturgis a while ago. However, the question that intrigued her was if the two talked about McGregor’s return to the UFC.

‘The Notorious’ has gone on a 3-year-long hiatus ever since he injured his leg while fighting Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. The return of the former UFC double champion against Michael Chandler was something that the entire world of mixed martial arts was waiting for with great anticipation. However, the Dubliner injured himself yet again weeks before his return.

When the reporter asked White if McGregor would make a comeback in 2024, he simply shook his head in denial. The UFC CEO said, “We talked, yeah. We didn’t meet up. But we talked. And yeah, he wants to fight. So we’ll figure it out. Not this year. He won’t fight this year.”

Even though the date for the fight is not decided, the matchup between McGregor and Chandler has a pretty good chance of materializing. Well, White seems to believe in a positive outcome.

UFC CEO confirms the possibility of ‘The Notorious’ vs. ‘Iron’

Earlier in July 2024, White was featured on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’. During the talks with McAfee, he was questioned about the matchup between McGregor and Chandler. It was, without a doubt, one of the fights that the entire fighting community has been waiting to watch ever since the duo had a scuffle at TUF 31. Thankfully, the UFC boss didn’t shatter the fight fans’ dreams.

White replied, “Ahh, sitting here right now, no, I don’t have a date for it or a plan or anything like that. And obviously, me, the fans, and ESPN would love that to happen at 2024, but we will see what happens.” Even though things are yet to be planned, McGregor’s return against Chandler is going to be phenomenal indeed.
