After the loss against Islam Makhachev, the former lightweight Charles Oliveira is now preparing himself to get back to the octagon stronger than ever. The Brazilian fighter has also done something that has changed his appearance. It’s definitely not about adding size through gym training. It is the new tattoo that Oliveira inked, covering the entire back of his body. Oliveira himself shared the picture of his huge tattoo on his Instagram account for his followers to see. He inked the face of a lion, most probably to signify that he indeed is a lionheart, as his fans call him. ‘Do Bronx’ shared an image of himself with his tattoo artist, who had to put in eleven hours of hard work to finish the tattoo. Under the photo, the 33-year-old wrote, “Another great job completed with my brother, @espositotattoo, just gratitude.11 hours of hard work”

The Mixed reactions of the fans and MMA stars

While many Oliveira fans loved the fighter’s new tattoo, some others were eager to mock him for tapping to Islam Makhachev’s arm triangle choke. They both fought against each other at UFC 280, and Makhachev skillfully squeezed the former lightweight champion into submission. Nonetheless, some of the MMA stars also dived into the comment section and complimented his new back tattoo.

While most MMA stars complimented Oliveira for his new body art, the fans had different concerns and feelings about his tattoo.

One of the fans felt the choice of ‘male lion head’ was a foolish idea because, in reality, a male lion does not do much. He commented:

“Sick tattoo but male lions don’t really do much all of the hunting is done by females and even then only about 30% of all their hunts are successful. Get a tattoo of a African wild dog they have a hunting success rate of 80% therefore the more deadly predator”

One of the fans was furious to see a lion tattoo on Oliviera. According to him, Oliveira was a coward who tapped in the fight against Makhachev.

“Pathetic no lion taps out in a middle of a fight rather go sleep he got the wrong tattoo he’s not no lion or has no lion heart. People with a lion mindset would never tap out ever this guy doesn’t know what he’s doing”

However, one man was empathetic enough to think about how much it would have hurt the fighter.

“That sh*t had to hurt, omg.”

What’s in store for Charles Oliveira?

From the fans’ reactions, it is clear that many loved his tattoo. Whereas some are still upset with his last bout. Nonetheless, fans are now looking forward to seeing a rematch between Oliveira and Makhachev. ‘Do Bronx’ has already talked about his return by the end of March or at the beginning of April. The audience now has to wait and see if such a rematch happens and if Oliveira changes the game this time.

"Like many, my journey into the beautiful game began by watching the mesmerizing Lionel Messi, as his impeccable vision on the pitch and role as a playmaker, meticulously calculating the path to goal always amazed me. This fascination with the finer details of soccer strategy naturally extended to my interest in content strategy. However, my zeal for being a soccer content analyst is not only because of Messi's magic, as I am a keen follower of the Becks as well. While in David Beckham, it was a special affinity for his mastery of crosses, passes, and set pieces, in Victoria Beckham, the fashion queen, I find inspiration in how she masterfully navigated the world of aesthetics and brand identity. This unique blend of admiration for both the tactical intricacies of soccer and the world of fashion and entertainment helps me to cover the game from angles that seamlessly balance sport and entertainment. Before joining EssentiallySports, I worked as a content analyst as well. A Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature from a premiere institute has helped me hone my writing skills and given me a unique perspective on the world of sports. Interestingly, besides soccer, I also extensively covered UFC, especially the Joe Rogan podcast. In my free time, I enjoy reading and keeping up with the latest developments in the world of sports.
