Even though UFC 304 attracted quite a bit of attention and drama, Dana White seemed pretty disappointed with the event. Back at the pre-fight press conference, the UFC head honcho promised to let the fighters have a massive $100 thousand bonus. However, later on after the event, White did not seem proud of that decision.

The UFC CEO was quite agitated with how the main event turned out. While he expected a finishing move from either the champion or the challenger, the fight went on for 5 whole rounds and ended with a decision. Let’s see what White had to say about the bonus and the fights.

Dana White doesn’t want to give out any more bonuses at press conferences

At the UFC 304 pre-fight press conference, King Green blurted out and asked White to spice up the event with a $100k bonus. White looked at the former welterweight champion, Leon Edwards. When ‘Rocky’ gave a nod, the UFC CEO announced, “Leon says yes.”

Despite promising to spice things up in their fights, neither Green nor Edwards were able to clinch a victory. Belal Muhammad became the new welterweight champion by defeating ‘Rocky’ via unanimous decision. And a disappointed White announced that he would never promise a bonus at a press conference ever again.

White said, “I think tonight’s show that we should not. Upping them doesn’t change anything. It doesn’t make anybody fight any harder. It doesn’t change anything. I’m not doing this again. Ever. Today was the last, the last day that I’m doing that. I’m not saying that in the future, the bonuses couldn’t get up, but I’m not gonna be at a press conference, say, ‘200, 300’.F***ing never again. You can thank everybody on this card for that. Nobody fought any harder. There was no sense of urgency. ‘Holy s**t! I want the $100K!’”

The fight fans predicted a similar outcome regarding the $100K bonus

Even though Muhammad is one of the strongest grapplers in the welterweight division, Edwards was pretty skilled with submission defense and has survived against phenomenal wrestlers before. On the other hand, the Britisher himself is not fond of finishing his fights. The only KO victory that impressed the fight fans was when Edwards knocked Kamaru Usman out cold.

After the pre-fight press conference and before the outcome of the UFC 304 main event, a fan took to Reddit and wrote, “Leon Edwards talking shit about Belal not being able to finish anyone when he’s literally in the same position (neither of them are getting the 100K bonus lol).” Needless to say, this garnered quite a bit of attention from the world of mixed martial arts. Many fight fans even came to the defense of the former champ. But it was Muhammad’s strength that stopped Edwards from rising with another KO victory.

But do you think White made the right call at the press conference? Will there be a fight in the future that can motivate the UFC head honcho to let the fighters have a massive win bonus? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
