Reinier de Ridder finally hit a brick wall in the UFC after an explosive run since his debut late last year. Brendan Allen took the fight to him, and although the fight was competitive, ‘All In’ dominated most of the fight. However, what caught the MMA community by surprise was ‘RDR’s and his corner’s decision to give up before the final round commenced. And guess what? This is not the first time de Ridder has given up in a fight.

Reinier de Ridder had one of the best runs as an MMA fighter in ONE Championship before his UFC arrival. The Dutchman was a double champion, holding the middleweight and the light heavyweight titles. However, there was one fighter who always had his number, and that’s Anatoly Malykhin. The sport’s first triple champion fought and defeated ‘RDR’ twice, but it was the second fight that generated a massive discussion online.
In Reinier de Ridder’s final fight under the ONE Championship banner, he fought for a title against Anatoly Malykhin, as Herb Dean officiated the fight. Everything was going as it should have in the fight until the third round. De Ridder was on the mat, lying there in discomfort, and the referee decided to check on him. After asking him a few times if he could continue, Dean decided to call the fight off and hand Malykhin the win.

Fans call Reinier de Ridder a “quitter”
The love and respect that Reinier de Ridder earned from the fans after racking up a 4-fight winning streak appears to have dried up. After witnessing the way his second fight with Anatoly Malykhin ended, the community renamed him for giving up, as one fan wrote, “Reiner de Quitter,” on X. The fact that former champion Robert Whittaker, who’s known for going ham inside the Octagon, lost to ‘RDR’, who’s shown to be a ‘quitter’, has fans wondering what went wrong with the Aussie veteran. “And s–ttaker lost to him,” another fan wrote.
As one fan wrote, “WOW! Both sad and pathetic,” he insinuated that Reinier de Ridder has given fans every chance to take swipes at him with such performances. These kinds of endings to a fight do not help him garner fans, and even though some people in the fight community thought he was the real deal, the UFC Vancouver loss has affected what they think of the Dutchman. “I believed in him, but now nahhhh he is on some next s–t.”

As one X user wrote, “Malykhin’s a steroid freak, but yeah, fair enough,” some fans appeared to back the Dutchman. They believe there is no shame in giving up since he was fighting some of the toughest fighters. “Show me your fights. I wanna see how you overcome being hit by the best fighters in the world,” said one fan. Meanwhile, there is still hope among fans for Reinier de Ridder to come back stronger. “Hope he bounces back,” said another fan.
