“Oh My God! He Looked Like Death” – UFC Commentator Joe Rogan Still Amazed by Conor McGregor’s “Massive Weight-Cut” & Transformation

Throughout his multifaceted career as a UFC commentator and a podcast host, Joe Rogan has witnessed a plethora of absurd and extraordinary things. However, there are certain things that still boggle his mind, despite all the experiences he has had. One of these is the sight of Conor McGregor cutting down his weight to a bizarre 145 lbs in 2015. Even after nearly 8 years, the image still startles Rogan, and it’s a sight he just can’t get out of his head.

During a recent episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience,’ the 55-year-old brought up how scary that transformation from ‘The Notorious’ looked, and how concerningly drastic it was to witness how McGregor was able to even pull it off. The weight-cut is something that has been on the radar for the UFC commentator for all the wrong reasons, and seeing McGregor like this still startles him over its mere occurrence.

Joe Rogan reacts to absurd 2015 Conor McGregor

During the episode #137 of the JRE MMA Show, Joe Rogan sat down with the UFC welterweight star Jorge Masvidal. The duo delved into various aspects of the sports, fighters and the eventually stumbled upon talking about the UFC superstar Conor McGregor in his early days. While discussing the Irishman, the two talked about his fights in 2015 and ‘Gamebred’ said, “I heard he’d have massive weight-cut to 145.” To which the 55-year-old responded with utter shock. “Oh my God! He looked like death.”, said the UFC commentator.

Rogan continued, “He was one of those guys when I would see him- That was the real weigh-ins. That wasn’t the weigh-ins, where guys were- ceremonial weigh in- where they weighed in at 10 o’clock in the morning.” Subsequently, they pulled up the clip of Conor McGregor at 145 lbs and it looked nothing but frightening to Rogan. He said, “Look at him at weigh in. That motherf***er looks like he’s on death door. And all that flexing and craziness, like, your body is, you could cramp up real bad at that point.”

But the UFC commentator still commended ‘The Notorious’ to be able to do it and still perform. “Just the amount of mental strength it took to get down to that 145, it was crazy.”, said Joe Rogan.

Today, Conor McGregor is a far cry from what he was in 2015. He’s bigger, richer, and coming off of a career-threatening injury. And whether he can make a successful return in the octagon or not remains a big question. Rogan did put forth his say on it with a hint of doubt.

During the JRE episode with Derek from ‘More Plates More Dates,’ Joe Rogan answered the question of whether Conor McGregor could make a successful return to the sport. He believed the Irishman certainly could, but still posed one major doubt.

Rogan said, “He could. He certainly could. The reason why Floyd Mayweather was still elite even at the top of his game… I don’t think you ever forget where you came from.” He added, “The real question for me with Conor is, what’s going on with his leg… His leg snapped in half. And no one, and I mean no one in combat sports, has had their leg snapped in half and come back and been the same or better.”

Conor McGregor’s return is going through a lot of obstacles already. It remains to be seen how things unfold from hereon and if ‘The Notorious’ can make an impactful return to UFC.
