Alex Pereira defeated Israel Adesanya at UFC 281. The fight was not at all predictable throughout the five rounds. Adesanya had a strong opening in the fight. He even inflicted take-downs on Alex Pereira. It was Pereira’s performance in the fifth round that made him the new Middleweight Champion of the UFC.

A video on Instagram has surfaced that shows Alex Pereira’s coach instructing him right before the start of the fifth round. Although, the Brazilian fighter looked exhausted after the end of the fourth round. However, Pereira came to the fifth round with a changed body language. The reason, it seems, was his coach’s motivating words.

Alex Pereira’s coach advised him to use combos

In the Instagram video, Pereira’s coach motivated him before the last round. He said, “One round for you to be a world champion. Five minutes, enough, enough. You need to get to him. You need to approach him, okay.” He then added,” You need to have knock him out. Listen, you need to knock him out. Always, always with the stance, with high guard.” Corner instructions by coaches often play an important role in a fighter’s performance. Pereira’s win looks like another page in that chapter.

After Pereira looked like he was lagging behind in the fight at the end of the 4th round, his coach asked him to use combos. Pereira’s coach also asked him to keep his guard up. He could be heard saying, “He is feeling when you are hitting. You only have one round, active with your defense and combos, two, three strikes. Just one-twos, alright, breathe. Right now you are going to be a world champion. This round is yours. Go for it.”

Alex Pereira then twisted the heat on Israel Adesanya in the fifth round. He used punch combos to finish off Israel Adesanya. Alex Pereira’s rise to the championship can be called meteoric. Also, his support crew will get a lot of credit for his achievements.
