The Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington feud is undoubtedly one of the ugliest in the UFC. Their friendship turned into a rivalry, and now they can’t stand each other. But before their infamous Miami brawl, the two shared the octagon in a massive grudge match at UFC 272 back in March 2022. Covington, also known as ‘Choas’, emerged as the victor over Masvidal, and that defeat has been gnawing at him ever since. During a recent appearance on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience,’ Masvidal revealed what led to his loss against Covington, and why he fell short against his rival.

‘Gamebred’ explained that he wasn’t at his best during the match. But Masvidal also made it clear that their story doesn’t end with that one fight. He justified his loss in the Las Vegas headliner, but alongside, he has also put out a very stern warning for the 35-year-old Covington.

Jorge Masvidal explains his loss at UFC 272 to Joe Rogan

During episode #137 of the JRE, UFC commentator Joe Rogan asked Jorge Masvidal about his fight with Colby Covington. Reflecting on his mindset during the fight, Masvidal said, “I wanted to f**king kill him. I wanted to hurt him. But I wasn’t the best version of me, bro. It just wasn’t the best version of me there in, you know.”

He emphasized his explanation, saying, “In this sport what I love about it is, what happens happen and everything else is just bullsh*t, right? So until we fight again, nobody will get to see that better version of me. But I promise you, Joe, before I close this chapter in my life, in MMA, I will have competed against this guy. I’m gonna f**cking take his soul, bro. I just know it. After being those 5 rounds in there with him, and that was the best that he had and I was nowhere near my best at that time for different reason, I know I can f**king end this guy.”

Not worried about Gilbert Burns

The UFC is heading back to Miami after 20 years for UFC 287, where Masvidal will take on Burns in the co-main event bout. After putting forth his case on his loss against Covington, the Miami-native fighter told Joe Rogan that he is sharpening his tools ahead of his match against the Brazilian. Masvidal doesn’t see himself getting down in this match in any possible way.

The 38-year-old said, “When I get in there with Gil[Gilbert Burns], he’s going to f**king feel it right away, bro. Like, you’re not going to take down on me, no matter what happens, brother.”
