“Opposite of What Chris Rock Did”- UFC Bantamweight Champ Aljamain Sterling on Colby Covington’s Legal Action Against Jorge Masvidal

Will Smith-Chris Rock slap incident at the 2022 Oscars left the audience rather shocked. Stand-up Comedian and show host Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, which didn’t sit well with the actor. Thus, Will Smith slapped the comedian Chris Rock. The MMA world had a déjà vu following this incident. And UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling did a great job comparing it to another similar situation.
A while ago, Jorge Masvidal attacked Colby Covington outside a restaurant in Miami. Later, ‘Chaos’ pressed charges against ‘Gamebred’ for the assault. But in contrast, Chris Rock pressed no charges on Will Smith for the 2022 Oscars fiasco. Recently, the UFC Bantamweight champion chimed in about this incident in an interview.

Aljamain Sterling recently appeared in an interview with Ariel Helwani on ‘MMA Hour.’ In that interview, when asked about the incident, the UFC Bantamweight Champion said that he “hundred percent” understand the cause behind Masvidal‘s action.
“Oh, hundred percent! And again, it’s the same exact thing. It’s like you cross a certain line you have to expect that not everyone is gonna be that same person that you can get away with that with,” explained Sterling. ‘Funk Master’ reasoned that some people might wait for the right moment to answer back, and some would ask others to avenge their cause.
The New Yorker contrasted the incident that happened on the night of the Oscars to the Miami incident. “Now Colby’s coming after him on a legal sense, doing the opposite of what Chris Rock did, so you see both sides of the equation here, different handling of the situation. Colby’s not that street guy,” added Sterling.

Not the way I ever want to win a fight. It was close, competitive and filled with action. I felt the knee was intentional, especially after the ref announced I was a downed opponent, so I didn’t expect to be hit.
