Paddy ‘the Baddy’ Pimblett stands out. A proud ‘scouser’ as people hailing from that part of the UK are pejoratively called by the rest of the country, his bob-cut hairdo and most distinctively, his unique and strange accent make him memorable.

But, Pimblett is not the only Scouser in the promotion. His friend and teammate Molly McCann is also a proud scouser and like the Englishman, fights in the UFC. The UFC women’s flyweight is a regular feature of ‘Paddy the Baddy’s vlogs, which has raised speculations about the relationship between them. And ahead of his UFC 296 bout against Tony Ferguson, we take a look at the relationship between the two Liverpool residents.

What is the relationship between Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann?

Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann train at the same Next Generation MMA gym in their native city of Liverpool, England. Both also share a good equation and are close personal friends, making public appearances and even celebrating in the cage together.

Contrary to some fans’ speculations, however, their relationship is a strictly platonic one as both fighters have repeatedly clarified. Pimblett was asked at a press conference by a fan recently if he had had sexual relations with McCann.

Pimblett was outraged at the question and reminded the fan that the female UFC fighter was homosexual and was engaged to be married to another woman. McCann has termed Pimblett as her “little big brother,” clearly indicating that they share a relationship akin to siblings.

And as Pimblett gears up to face fan-favorite Tony Ferguson in a bout that is unlikely to help Pimblett redeem his reputation. The Englishman has gone from being one of the most hyped prospect to being one of the most hated by fans over the past year. And his upcoming bout seems to have nothing to offer to remedy his unpopularity.

Pimblett to face ‘El Cucuy’ at UFC 296

Tony Ferguson is currently on a six-fight losing streak in the UFC. This is a far cry from the ‘Boogeyman’ who once won twelve consecutive fights in the lightweight division. And no matter the result, Pimblett is unlikely to come out the other side with a better estimation among fans and analysts.

A loss to ‘El Cucuy’ would be devastating for the Liverpool native. A close victory would also harm his reputation greatly. On the other hand, even a dominant victory would not help Pimblett as Ferguson is on a steep decline. Which, given his recent unpopularity with fans, makes it a lose-lose fight for him.

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I love telling the stories of these magnificent fighters and this wildly unpredictable sport that is so frustrating and yet so joyous at the same time. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
