Jamahal Hill was on a hiatus from the fighting world after he injured his Achilles tendon in his fight against Glover Teixeria. However, ‘Sweet Dreams’ returned to the octagon to headline the UFC 300 event and snatch his relinquished belt from the hands of champion Alex Pereira. Jamahal Hill tried to maintain dominance in the first round but Pereira had a better plan with him as he knocked out the former champion in the very first round to defend his belt successfully.

Pereira had initially planned for a full five-round main event fight. However, due to the disrespect he faced at the UFC 300 pre-fight presser, Pereira decided to end the match as soon as possible. Former UFC fighter, Ben Askren believes that Hill was a bit overconfident in his approach to face ‘Poatan’.“My general feeling on that fight, I thought Jamahal Hill was a little too confident, saying he could stand with him,” Askren said. “I feel like he disregarded how hard Pereira hits.”
