The hype train that Reinier de Ridder was on since making his UFC debut last November unfortunately crashed at UFC Vancouver. Competing in his second main event in just five fights, ‘RDR’ fell victim to Brendan Allen in the oddest of ways. At round four, after getting dominated by the Beaufort native, de Ridder decided to literally give up, as his corner threw in the towel. De Ridder picked up a TKO loss and even got sounded off by his fellow UFC fighters on social media, including Khamzat Chimaev.

Firstly, credit was given where it was due, and Henry Cejudo praised Brendan Allen for his exciting showcase at Vancouver. “19-19. Brendan Allen storms back. Very competitive fight,” he wrote on X. In the same way, commentator Jon Anik also shared his take on the fight, praising Allen and the support he had in his corner. “ENORMOUS win for [Brendan Allen]. Team Roufusport was not gonna be denied tonight. Great job by [Belal Muhammad] in Allen’s ear. All of B.A.’s confidence is well placed,” he stated.

On the other hand, others reacted to Reinier de Ridder giving up in the fourth round, and Khamzat Chimaev‘s message to him was loud and clear. The Dutchman’s hopes for a title shot may not come true anytime soon. “This bulls–t guy give up,” ‘Borz’ wrote on X as well. Meanwhile, Paulo Costa claimed that ‘RDR’ should have gone for the last round, writing, “If I knew it would only last 4 rounds, I would go for it lol.”

While Allen was heaped with all praise, there were quite a few fighters who took issue with Reinier de Ridder’s decision not to continue fighting after the fourth round. Nassourdine Imavov said he “knew it,” claiming that he anticipated this kind of an end to the UFC Vancouver main event. But one of the most serious jibes taken at ‘RDR’ was from former title contender Marvin Vettori.

Marvin Vettori slams Reinier de Ridder after his TKO loss at UFC Vancouver

Reinier de Ridder has had a pretty fast-paced run in the UFC, and that might have added to his loss at UFC Vancouver. The Dutchman was unable to answer the bell for the final round. This loss may change his perspective on how he can be active without putting too much pressure on his body. However, Marvin Vettori has a different outlook on the main event fight.

Marvin Vettori echoed pretty much the same sentiment as Paulo Costa. ‘The Italian Dream’ believes that finishing the fight should be a fighter’s priority, and since Reinier de Ridder couldn’t do that, Vettori made a scathing remark at his fellow middleweight fighter. “De ridder is a p—y,” the Italian native wrote on X. Well, it remains to be seen if ‘RDR’ responds to these remarks, or maybe we’ll see them fight each other soon.
