Dark clouds continue to hang over Fighting Nerds. After a disastrous night at UFC Paris, all eyes turned to Jean Silva at UFC Noche! The fans hoped that he would put the team back in the win column following tough losses by Caio Borralho and Mauricio Ruffy. But ‘Lord’ couldn’t deliver the salvation his camp needed as Diego Lopes brutally knocked him out in the second round.

Silva’s defeat in San Antonio now marks three consecutive losses for the team across two high-profile events—a massive setback for a squad once brimming with promise. Still, even in the midst of this slump, the Nerds have a path to redemption. With the right moves, they can engineer a strong comeback. And here are three ways they can make it happen.

Jean Silva needs to fight a top-10 featherweight to improve

In the featherweight division, Jean Silva quickly emerged as a dangerous contender. His knockout power, unhinged personality, and overall presence captivated fans. With that same intensity, the Fighting Nerds’ fighter stepped into his last bout against Diego Lopes in the UFC Noche main event, knowing that a victory could put him on a path toward a potential showdown with Alexander Volkanovski

Silva entered UFC Noche with not only high stakes but also a heated rivalry against Diego Lopes. Many feared that the emotions of the feud might cause him to lose focus—and in moments, that’s exactly what happened. Lopes dominated on the ground early, nearly finishing the fight in the first round. Still, ‘Lord’ looked dangerous when the fight stayed on the feet.

The São Paulo native landed several heavy shots, including a nasty front kick to the face that had fans buzzing. But after finding some success, Silva pressed too hard, too soon. His aggression left openings, and Lopes capitalized—catching him with a sharp elbow before sealing the finish with relentless ground-and-pound. The loss exposed a fighter who wasn’t quite ready to handle a former title challenger.

Even so, Silva remains a live threat in the featherweight division. To rebound, he should aim for a matchup against a fellow top-10 contender like Arnold Allen or Josh Emmett—bouts that would sell in any arena and provide the perfect step toward redemption. Here, both fights make sense, as they’re competitive without being too far removed from his last challenge. With Silva’s path to a comeback clear, let’s turn to the other UFC Paris losses that deepened the storm over Fighting Nerds.

Is Carlos Prates the savior the Fighting Nerds desperately need to stop their losing streak?

Caio Borralho and Mauricio Ruffy should choose their opponents wisely

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say Caio Borralho was on the verge of a middleweight title shot. He even weighed in as a replacement for UFC 319, where Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev clashed for the 185-pound crown. Heading into UFC Paris, Nassourdine Imavov was seen as Borralho’s final hurdle to cement himself as the No. 1 contender. But things didn’t go his way.

Borralho dropped a unanimous decision to the Russian-Frenchman, and with it, lost his immediate chance to fight for middleweight gold. Still, all is not lost. The Fighting Nerds’ standout remains close to contention. A matchup with Robert Whittaker would be the perfect next step—a fight that would test Borralho against a former champion while keeping him in the title conversation.

For Mauricio Ruffy, the road back is a little more complicated. He suffered a setback against Benoît Saint Denis, who came in ranked No. 13 at lightweight. That loss makes it risky for Ruffy to chase opponents ranked higher, with Michael Chandler currently holding the No. 12 spot. Instead, a fight with Grant Dawson, who’s ranked below him, makes the most sense. The pairing would give Ruffy a chance to rebuild, while allowing him to sharpen the grappling game that looked vulnerable against ‘BSD’ in Paris.

Still, when it comes to a potential comeback story, Carlos Prates has to be part of the conversation. In fact, he might just be the ace up the sleeve for Fighting Nerds if they want to snap their three-fight skid and bounce back in style. Let’s break down why.

Carlos Prates at UFC 322 can stop the Fighting Nerds’ ship from sinking

Carlos Prates was actually the first Fighting Nerds fighter to taste defeat this year, falling short against Ian Garry on a UFC Fight Night card. But he quickly shook off that bad luck with a spectacular spinning backfist knockout of Geoff Neal at UFC 319. Unfortunately, his teammates have since suffered three consecutive losses, and now the responsibility rests firmly on his shoulders.

‘The Nightmare’ is set to face Leon Edwards at UFC 322 inside Madison Square Garden in a high-profile welterweight clash. The stakes couldn’t be higher. A win over the former 170-pound champion wouldn’t just supercharge Prates’ own title run. It would also restore momentum and lift the morale of his entire team.

With that being said, what do you think? Can Prates pull off a statement victory against Edwards and restart the Fighting Nerds’ winning train? And how do you see the team bouncing back from their recent struggles? Let us know in the comments below.
