Sean O’Malley is one of the brightest prospects in the UFC, and a definite star in the making. The self-proclaimed unranked bantamweight champion is already a polarizing figure in the sport. He made his promotional debut in 2017 against Terrion Ware and put on an impressive performance. ‘Suga’ is 6-1 in the IFC since making his debut, with his only loss coming against Marlon Vera. However, he doesn’t consider that as a loss, as he suffered an injury during the fight, which gave Vera an advantage.

The up-and-coming star of the sport is not short on confidence. Despite being unranked, he has his sights set on Petr Yan. According to him, Yan is a top 3 pound-for-pound fighter in the world and would love to fight him. He even put his name out as a replacement when Aljamain Sterling backed out of his rematch against Yan at UFC 267. O’Malley thinks he is the only one who can beat ‘No Mercy’ right now. In an interview, he said, “I don’t see who’s gonna beat Petr other than me… I can compete with Petr, I think he has more high-level experience, but I’m just a different animal.”

Petr Yan didn’t take much time and trolled O’Malley on Twitter. Yan has nicknamed ‘Suga‘ poodle and in his tweet wrote, “Yeah we all know what kind of animal.” With a poodle emoji to end the tweet.

Yan is the current interim UFC bantamweight champion. He will soon fight in the unification bout with Aljamain Sterling, a fight that was scheduled to take place at UFC 267.

Despite having a fight coming up, O’Malley has his sight set on his next fight. He has called out another upcoming bantamweight Adrian Yanez on multiple occasions. During an interview on The MMA Hour, he was asked if Yanez is someone he wants to fight next.

He said, “Yeah, I would think. I mean, I called him out, and he stuttered. He didn’t really know what to say. He was trying of talking sh** while saying I had really cool knockouts. So, I think my first impression of when he got asked about that was, he said that I wanna fight ranked opponents, which was completely a lie. I’ve never said I wanna fight a ranked opponent.”

According to him, a fight against Yanez in March will make sense. Both men are known for their striking abilities, and a fight between the two will be an explosive one.
