Kamaru Usman is one of the best mixed martial artists in the world right now. He is the current UFC welterweight champion and has looked unstoppable ever since he’s joined the UFC.

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ signed with the UFC after winning The Ultimate Fighter back in 2015. He was 5-1 entering his fight against Haydar Hassan in the finale of TUF. Since then, he hasn’t looked back and only gotten stronger and better as a fighter. Usman has always been an excellent wrestler, yet he wasn’t known for his striking. But over the years, the Nigerian fighter has improved his skill on his feet.

He won the UFC welterweight title after going on a 10-fight win streak. He took on Tyron Woodley at the UFC 235 and completely dominated the then champion. Since the win, he has defended his title five times, three of which came in 2021. He has defeated some of the biggest names in the game and won the ‘Fighter of the Year’ award for his performances in 2021.

However, it doesn’t seem like everyone like the number 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC. And the champion had some words to say to them and went on a rant on social media. He wrote, “Whomever you are watching my story, please just choke yourself. 2022 just started and your life is centered around others.”

“Better yet, kill yourself. Having fun watching my life and not yours. I love my fans even those that hate because you truly only wish you could be me.”

A year to remember for Kamaru Usman

Kamaru Usman entered the year 2021 as just a welterweight champion, but left the year as one of the greatest to ever to it.

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ won the title in 2019 and had defended it twice before entering 2021. However, last year he put his title on the line three times, which is almost unheard of in today’s times. And it was not just him defending it, it was also the level of competition he was doing it against.
