UFC President Dana White is social media savvy and, as a top promoter, knows how to draw attention to himself. There’s no doubt about that. However, there are days when it seems he goes overboard with his messaging on social media. Recently, it was one of those days.

Veteran martial arts ring and Octagon announcer Bruce Buffer is no stranger to martial arts fans. Buffer found himself on the receiving end of White’s lighthearted jab recently as the UFC president teased the announcer for wearing a mask despite the reduced intensity of the COVID-19 pandemic.

White’s leadership during the pandemic significantly impacted the sports world. He took necessary precautions to ensure the safety of staff and fighters during UFC events. Although masks were mandated, White did not make them mandatory for everyone. On Fight Island, if individuals tested negative, they were allowed to move around without masks. Currently, COVID-19 is not as much of a threat as it was in 2020 and 2021, leading Dana White to humorously tease Buffer about his continued mask usage. However, this tease from the UFC head honcho didn’t sit well with the fans who defended the veteran voice of the octagon.

Dana White’s attempt to present a reminder to the veteran announcer as a light-hearted joke did not go down well with fans. The post he shared on his Instagram story quickly found its way onto Reddit, where fans flocked to the comments section to show their support for Bruce Buffer’s choice to wear a mask while hitting back at White.
