He shares videos on MMA-related topics on his YouTube channel which has 1.07 M followers. ‘The American Gangster’ recently talked about fight promotions in the UFC. He even disclosed how Dana White sent gifts to all 556 athletes in the UFC.
Sonnen was one of the greatest fighters ever not to have won a championship. Fans, however, love and remember the Jiu-Jitsu black belt for what he was. He was talking about how Dana White made fighters promote themselves. He revealed how White sent $500 gifts to UFC fighters.

Sonnen said, “500 to every single athlete, so it’s right around that 500 mark so why to say that one year it was a laptop but if you were to go see what that laptop cost it was about 540 right around this 500.” White and the UFC have been praised earlier by athletes for taking care of fighters and standing by them.
Dana White apparently sent cameras and laptops as gifts to all 556 UFC fighters. It might seem like a generous boss taking care of his people. The real intention behind these gifts was something else. Chael Sonnen told in his videos about the real intentions of White’s gifts.

Sonnen shared his thoughts. He said, “Well this camera and the laptop sync together through a cord that was also part of the gift and the message for any of us that took the time to thank the person that gave the gift, Dana would write back start v-blogging.”
Dana White’s suggestion to fighters to start V-blogging was a strategy for promotion. Sonnen pressed on how promotions were all about storytelling. He said many fighters took White’s suggestions. Fighters in the past have worked hard to promote their fights.

Fighters hire camera teams for promotion
Sonnen also shared instances of how seriously fighters took their promotions and the steps fighters take to tell their story to the fans. Talking about former fighter Kevin Lee he said, “I shared with you guys that Kevin Lee had flown to Portland and come and seen me before he got a plane and flew to it that time California go to The Joe Rogan Show before he had flown.” It’s noteworthy that Lee did the entire PR campaign at his own expense, using his own contacts.

Sonnen also mentioned other fighters like Colby Covington and Henry Cejudo. He was talking about how these fighters hired their own camera teams to document their stories. Promoters and promotions have always been important in combat sports.
